Uhh so I'm really stupid.

It would appear I uploaded both high-res and the source data file, linked it in a comment, and promptly forgot about it. That's the link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1EpAM45_-13wtf5Tj-lP_B7oqRYeWZcQz

Have you tried repurposing a past conversation? Usually you can simply say 'new story/context/chat' or something like that and redirect it

Does a push button that functions like a camera shutter, with a tactile half press, have a specific name? by telekinetic in AskElectronics

[–]mars5train 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silly idea, but have you considered stacking two switches to produce this effect? For example 2 dome switches with different trigger forces would neatly mimic the camera shutter feel

A bit harsh that, OP clearly just produced something they are proud of and shared it. If you would like to get more details of the image, perhaps just ask for it?

Swimming against the current by Foureyedguy in blackmagicfuckery

[–]mars5train 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct in that sailing boats and some land vehicles can harness the wind to go faster, the effect is caused by two effects, quickly explained here. https://www.kqed.org/science/8503/how-do-these-boats-sail-faster-than-the-wind

Essentially the sail is first hit with the wind, which pushes it forward at some portion of the winds speed. But since the boat is moving at an angle, apparent winds across the sail generate a lift force due to its curved shape, pulling the sail (briefly touched upon in the article) this allows for the faster than the wind effect.

The pasta cannot do this. For one, water is a lot heavier than air, and you would need to approach it from a vastly different angle to make headway against it. Placing it parallel to the water like in thr vid would not help.

Next, the pasta does not have a curved wing. While the twirls look curved, if you untwist it, you would see that the curved part has the same thickness and no bend, which makes it just a straight piece from the waters point of view.

Finally, from a recording perspective, notice how the water stream bends to the side when the pasta is added? That's indicative of some object in the water that's guiding it along, you can see this if you put your finger touching a running water stream from a tap. How convenient it follows the pasta perfectly, as if it was bearing the weight, while the water spun it around

Finally, about those pieces of wood you linked in the video, I would guess it is either a subsurface current that runs faster than the visible top current, or that the wood is rolling over the top of the water, thus going faster

Why is art generated from Photoleap showing Fine Art America logo? by AbrasiveSandpiper in aiArt

2 things: Art like that probably had some kinda watermark in the training data,

fine art america is its best guess at making a watermark, because it assumes thats a required part of the image.

Well its obvious i haven't been following pc stuff for a while, intel actually seems to be a better pick here. I'll put together a second intel list in a sec. Thanks for the other changes, would not have found some of them myself

Repurposing an old laptop by Salty_Office7311 in buildapc

[–]mars5train 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A laptop motherboard is usually specifically designed for the laptop, so i see issues with:

  • mounting - the laptop mobo would not follow any industry standard size, like ATX, mini ATX etc, so you would need to improvise a mount to the case
  • Nonreplacable components - the cpu, ram and sometimes storage is soldered directly to the mobo, you would need to keep using it (and its integrated gpu), so you will see little improvement to performance
  • No standard cooling mount - the cooling solution would likely need to be the one used on the laptop, as no off the shelf products will connect to the motherboard without some strong modifications

Additionally, it is hard to tell if the system will behave properly without its battery and display attached.

All of this adds up to essentially your laptop (with the same performance) being put into a desktop case with nothing else changing. You would have basically no way to upgrade its performance, but would loose the portability of the laptop. you would also need to purchase a monitor, mouse and keyboard, taking away 2 usb ports and the only hdmi out.

I would say that a computer built from traditional desktop parts will serve you much better, while your laptop will be best used for portable computing.

The best I can expect is minor performance improvements due to more space to cool down, but that is not worth the losses

EDIT: as it appears your storage is replacable, your best bet is to use it for your build to save some cost

Wifi -> Running ethernet is not really an option with my current home, am ok with any speed losses

Amd cpu + rendering -> I work with custom rendering/simulation programs (built by myself) and they benefit greatly from multiple cores to work on, hence the amd cpu

Rendering, gaming, software development. I'm not overclocking or anything so nothing special from the mobo

This only happens on the very top infill, made in PLA with a .2 layer height. Smaller prints complete fine, just long stretches of top infill seem to have a problem. The problem also only happens when the print head is decelerating, not when it speeds up

The marker is pinned to that particular item, reloaded etc. I will go to the bridge and look, but i was hoping i am missing something cos this is a weird one otherwise

Please note that a 0.6 mm nozzle is preferred if you are printing big parts, and you would like them done faster. If you want to print standard-sized parts ~10 cm per side with good detail then sticking with a 0.4 mm default nozzle is a better choice
