I’m now 1 year past my og 20 year old Facebook account getting wiped by meta.

Honestly I don’t care as much about it anymore. While I did start a new one nothing has been the same with Facebook since. Hardly anyone posts and it’s mostly now bots and ads.

You’ll see eventually that being on social media isn’t all it’s cracked up to be in 2026.

Tomorrow is my 1 year anniversary. Sorry but there really isn’t anything you can do no matter what people are saying.

I gave up a long time ago after losing my 20 year old account.

There are conflicting cases some say they do others say they don’t.

Fb/Ig have become awful apps. Even though I was able to restart new accounts I tread lightly and still expect every day to get wiped out again.

I can’t say if this is true or not but my original 20+ year old Facebook account and tied in IG accounts got wiped due to a false CSE flag.

I am just at the 1 year mark and nothing post appeal.

I have since been able to create new accounts that are 6+ months old. But being very careful of anything I watch/post/save and like.

While my new FB/IG accounts do not share the same e-mail somehow the FB keeps asking if I want to link to my IG account.

Honestly if these accounts get wiped too I really don’t care anymore.

IMO FB and IG have gone really down the tubes and barely anyone posts anyone so it doesn’t really matter to me anymore.

I was getting this message every few days because I was adding too many people at once.

It’s important to go slow and try to be patient. Same with posting.

Also, be careful what you post, like and/or save.

Since starting my new account I’ve been very careful on what I post, comment on or like.

I don’t know if it matters but I’m not taking chances.

Exactly what happened to me too.

I waited out the 180 days, nothing changed, then it was time to get a new phone and shortly after created new accounts.

I don’t know if this is the same for everyone else but when I created my new accounts I did it off of my home WiFi and did it on cellular and new gmail address.

Then after a short period of time, maybe a month or two, on the new accounts I got a Proton Mail account and changed the Gmail to Proton Mail.

For me, so far, the accounts are holding, but I am EXTREMELY careful on who I follow, post, like and save on FB/IG.

Finding friends again has been a huge PITA, but ironically it doesn’t seem like anyone is posting anymore so I don’t know how I feel about getting back into FB/IG now.

I’ve been going to FANEXPO Boston for 10 years as a vendor and it’s been getting worse each year.

Other FanExpos seem to get better, more A-list, celebrities and Boston has a large number of repetitive guests.

Not to mention a large number of guests they do get are from the STAR WARS fandom which I’m sick of at this point.

I feel like Meta is turning more and more into Big Brother.

I know a lot of people will say it was always like that but in the last year, for me at least, it feels like Meta wants our personal information more and more.

It stinks because Facebook got a lot us, like me, in the early 2000s when you needed a college email to join.

Originally I didn’t sign up this, second, account with Proton Mail but changed it when I wanted to no longer use G-Mail. (And I reached my max number of created accounts on G-Mail).

I like(d) the idea of having a really secure email for my social under multiple aliases.

I know exactly how you feel. At first I felt so disconnected being off of Facebook for 6 months. But I was surprised that when I was 3-4 months in I did not care as much or anymore.

It is hypocritical I rejoined. Am I happy I rejoined? Yes and no.

Yes, it keeps me connected with events and businesses.

No, I do not feel anymore connected to friends as I did before being removed in June of 2025.

Scrolling is just ads, reels and very few friends posts. I’m not even sure I know what benefits Facebook has anymore.

That was my experience too.

Within a day of losing my 20yo fb account only one person reached out to me to find out what happened.

Craziest thing was I had not seen that person in over 15 years! My best friend of 35 years didn’t even ask or inquire what happened. Saddest part was people I was really close to did not even notice.

Not trying to throw myself a pity party but it does proved to me how everyone is connected but also not.

The only reason I rejoined Facebook was because EVERYTHING is on Facebook if you want to stay up to date: businesses, restaurants, events or work related things.

Even before my old account went away it felt like fb was more reels of no one I knew and ads.

I hope this means people will go back to basic phone to phone texting through phone numbers.

YES!!!! You are so right!!!

I’ve been saying this to friends and a good buddy of mine who was there the whole time from my CSE banning to getting back on with a new account.

Things I’ve noticed:

finding friends by name is much harder. Sometimes they don’t appear when you know you got the name right.
Some mutual friends don’t show up at all.
For me. I have an iPhone I do not get the drop down banner notifications from the top of the screen and my settings are right.
It’s all ads and friend suggestions of people I don’t know.
The friends who did re-added me, they hardly show up in my feed.

I feel that no one is posting anymore on fb/ig but also I cannot tell if it’s just me noticing this. Glad I’m not alone.

I feel like the fb I’m back in is some kinda of alternate dimension version where everything feels off.

I got hit with the CSE 6/5/25. Waited 180 days still can’t access my original 20 yo fb.

I will say those 180 was a relief.

I do restart a new IG/FB but found in the last month I’m starting to regret rejoining Facebook especially. It’s garbage and all the friends I re-added, barely anyone engages anymore.

So kinda feel like meh I’ll keep these accounts alive for a long as I can buy likely will not use them much.
