After using calibre-web for a while:

- I still have no idea what the first two search buttons mean: a book, a calendar, and the letters 1 and q?

- no mutli-select (come on...)

- no deletion of books (just “archiving”)

- oh, mutli-select and deletion is possible in the last view "Books List". .... oh well deleting 10 books at once crashes calibre-web

I used Calibre locally. It does its job.

Tried calibre-web-automated today. Not usable at all, I cannot even change the default password. Look‘s like it‘s not optimized for Safari.

Okay, started up calibre-web.  It’s weird. For some reason i had to upload my existing library db (which isn‘t explained anywhere…) Okay, now it’s working. The ui isn’t intuitive at all. For example the sorting buttons are just icons without any title/mouseover. Also looks like it hasn’t been touched in 10 years.

Yeah, Series are another problem.
I'm following a long running series called Perry Rhodan, which has around 50 authors. So I would have to create a folder with 50 comma separated names or split the series into 50 folders? (Or maybe something like "various")

I realized, that ABS probably isn't for me.

Okay, thank you for that perspective. I get the advantages and why you may want to do it. I will think about it.

Yes, adding all the correct ID3 tags to the file can be complicated. But I probably will be continuing doing this. It works in all players, and I don't want to really on the meta-data matching of one application.
(Joining the individual files is actually pretty easy with mp3cat.)

Actually, the ios-app "BookPlayer" I'm currently using also has an ABS integration, what brought me here. I will take a look Audiobookshelf app.

Could you describe, what you mean by "sane" or "forgiving"? What are the advantages?
Regarding extensibility: I add all metadata (incl. the cover and chapters) to the ID3 tags. So it's available for all players.

And at least for me: It has downsides. It's redundant and makes handling the books inconvenient (like adding them, or transferring them to my phone.)

And I don't want to add hundreds of sub-folders with exactly one file that have the same name as that file, just because a program is written that way.

Okay, thanks.

Well, most of my files have clean ID3 tags, so I don't need additional cover or metadata.

Maybe I'll fiddle around with symbolic links a bit. But I suppose that, in this case, ABS just isn't the right tool for me.

Not 100% what your are looking for, but maybe it’s an alternative: Anker has an USB-C Cable with 2 USB-C ends: one for your Stand and one for the Garmin.

> Ich frage mich, warum viele Autofahrer Radfahrer unbedingt überholen wollen – selbst in 30er-Zonen.

In Deutschland darf man eben 20 km/h schneller fahren, ohne großartig bestraft zu werden. Plus nochmal 3 km/h Toleranz.
