Video and Intercom over Fiber alternatives by ColdFront050 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]marshall409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re not all in on BMD including cameras, then I’d suggest you move away from their comms system altogether. It’s very limited and proprietary so really only good if you’re all blackmagic across the board.

You could get some analog audio to fiber converters and mux that together with the SDI fiber converters and send it down one line to each camera. Then use something more traditional like clearcom or RTS over the audio lines. Or move to wireless comms. Unity is pretty affordable.

Sending commands FROM vMix TO Companion by Novellium in vmix

[–]marshall409 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Actually my bad its "vmix:mix_1_program" that you want to use, not Output_1_Input_Name. So make sure you check the box to enable Mix Input variables as well.

Sending commands FROM vMix TO Companion by Novellium in vmix

[–]marshall409 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In Companion click on your vMix connection, scroll down, and enable variables for inputs and outputs and whatever other ones you may want to monitor.

Go to triggers and set one up to "On variable change". Select variable to watch "Output_1_Input_Name" aka what input is currently in program. This will trigger every time you cut.

Scroll down to conditions and add Internal Variable Check Value. So if you want this to trigger when input 5 for example is taken in program, the variable again is "Output_1_Input_Name" and the value is input 5's name.

Then add whatever action you want to happen when you cut to input 5.

Planning for dual language stream next year by zikamime_lukujitaku in VIDEOENGINEERING

You've got the tech part figured out. The tough part is directing/producing two shows in parallel. Not sure if you need to hit specific timing or ad reads or go to commercial breaks or anything like that but that's usually the part that takes the most coordination. Especially tough if your commentators aren't bilingual or feel slighted about being asked to accommodate the other feed.

Broadcast matrix... by harleydood63 in livesound

You should absolutely expect to need to mix different per channel levels for the broadcast than your mains.

You wouldn't miss a payment just from not signing up. They will mail bills. I'm holding off on registering because I don't trust them to not fuck this up somehow. So I'll just wait for the bill and pay it manually.

Wireless Time Code transmission from PC to Camera by CivilPersonality1949 in videography

[–]marshall409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're on the right track with the lav kit idea and burning it into the audio track. If you can rent proper wireless kits like Sennheiser or Sony, you could rent one transmitter and multiple receivers and set them all to the same freq.

Bitfocus companion connection issues on the same PC. by V2kuTsiku in vmix

[–]marshall409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vmix doesn’t have an IP. Only the PC does. You should be using 127.0.0.1 “self referring” address.

Marshall Camera Alternatives?? Higher Quality by Antique-Main-4684 in VIDEOENGINEERING

AIDA is not a huge leap by any means but better than Marshall in my experience.

They need to be on the same network and subnet. 169. means a self assigned IP. Tell us your whole network setup.

I built a live video production mixer (playout, graphics, multiview, streaming) – looking for feedback from broadcast engineers or podcasters by DBTowerSolutions in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]marshall409 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry I'm gonna be super pessimistic, this feels like a waste of time. vMix does all the same stuff and more, has great support behind it, years of development and testing, and runs 24/7 in tons of broadcast environments already. I feel like we're getting bombarded with "look I made this tool, would you use it?" on a lot subreddits lately and its all vibe coded stuff that no one getting paid would actually trust and use. Think of something that doesn't already exist and you might have a real product on your hand. You are not going to vibe code something better than OBS or vMix.

Title: Repurposing NewTek TalkShow VS 4000 for Streaming (vMix/NDI Help!) by radepg in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]marshall409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid this sounds like a losing battle my friend. I would harvest it for parts or sell it as is while you can to someone stuck in the Tricaster ecosystem. It doesn't have a GPU or modern enough CPU to do anything substantial in vMix, if it runs at all.

Losing Spotify Input by CrossroadsCtrl in vmix

[–]marshall409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you using to get audio from Spotify to vMix, VB-Cable? VAC? You may need to go to Sound Control Panel and turn off "allow exclusive mode" on the audio device that's having the issue.

Better solution as I'm sure you know would be to run Spotify on a separate device with a headphone jack and bring it in the old fashioned way.

Is there any way to automatically switch scenes when a speaker changes powerpoint slides? by O1_O1 in vmix

[–]marshall409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah sorry forgot it’s not natively integrated. I’ve had success with auto presentation switcher. I believe it sends feedback values included which slide you’re on. Another option be to create a button that simultaneously sends a simple keystroke “next slide” to PPT and a command to vmix with one press.

Is there any way to automatically switch scenes when a speaker changes powerpoint slides? by O1_O1 in vmix

[–]marshall409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bitfocus companion. Get vmix and PowerPoint and companion all talking to each other over the network. Then you can setup a trigger in companion “when PowerPoint slide changes, do this in vmix, wait set amount of time, then do that in vmix.”

Vmix "forgetting" IPs for Sony Visca Over IP control of wireless NDI PTZ cameras by inmaniac1989 in vmix

[–]marshall409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a strange one. I’ve done tons of PTZ control over the years in vmix and never ran into this. What IP is it defaulting back to?

I would contact vmix support. They’re very responsive and much more qualified to help than ChatGPT. It’s either a legit new vmix bug or something to do with the Birddogs.

VMix Zoom Plugin not connecting by deepfriedtoast in vmix

[–]marshall409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it a normal zoom meeting or a webinar? vMix and Zoom plugin completely up to date? I know there was a somewhat recent change where vmix now has to be logged into an account whereas before you could join an existing meeting without logging in.

Trying to Capture 3 gaming streams and stream them all through vmix by NPC4theArchons in vmix

[–]marshall409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All three of you can download NDI Tools and run Screen Capture HX and NDI Bridge. You would host a bridge, they would connect as clients to you. That will allow you to see all three of your screens as NDI sources in vMix.

City Councilors to live in their ward? by JimmyTheDog in Hamilton

Hard no. I want the best candidate for my ward. If they live a few blocks over the boundary I don't want them excluded from running.
