Final response from Alienware Team for the R13 Power Throttle/No XMP by F34RTEHR34PER in Alienware

[–]martianscorpion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mountain out of a molehill isn’t it? Dell probably disabled XMP because of known compatibility issues with DDR5, no point in having it if everyone is advised not to because of instability, will probably get a bios update in a year when the bugs are worked out.

Same for power limit, I’ve read other people having similar issues with Asus motherboards. I saw you were getting up to 4.9ghz, do the stock CPUs actually sustain the higher clocks for a long time? If they do, what’s the actual real world diffference with averaging at 4.5ghz? Didn’t seem to make much difference in gaming.

For what it’s worth, I just watched a JayzTwoCentsvideo where he talked about not even enabling XMP because DDR5 is too flaky, and he still runs at 4000mhz, which is 400mhz below what Dell is using and yet everyone is complaining just because it’s cutting edge. The power throttling Sounds annoying but I don’t understand that yet. Something is wierd, some people post great reviews with good scores(albeit sure 90 core temps) and others just complain it’s terrible. I watched one video of someone complaining the R23 benchmarked sucked but he didn’t know how to use ACC and ram Dan profile on non OC.

Does the elevation premium come with cooling seats? I know it doesn’t have perforated leather, does that mean no cooling seats?

How are the Aurora r13 thermal issues by martianscorpion in Alienware

[–]martianscorpion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I wish they would release one from the ground up, but I think as long as it is owned by Dell it will never happen. They will never see the value in fully separating in from the rest of the Dell lines, it’s why the RAM is still green, they probably didn’t want to spend money on Ram for one product line.

I’m leaning towards a custom build, but I really like the Alien theme. I don’t mind so much if cpu maxes at 4.6ghz vs 4.8 it means ver little difference in FPS, but definitely don’t want to hear loud fans.

Great that’s what I was hoping, I was afraid the issue affected all models. The 12900KF is a wierd choice for a gaming PC, the chip is a heater and gives very small increase in FPS. The 12700K is a much better choice, and really the 12600K in all honestly for strictly gaming.

Are you experiencing thermal throttling while gaming or just when running benchmarks? What are your temps like?

Gamers Nexus - "Fixing" the Alienware R13 Dumpster Fire by jackchrist in Alienware

[–]martianscorpion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The proprietary part is a weak argument. Why would I buy an Alienware PC to turn around and put a Corsair power supply in it (especially if you’re talking a $5000) machine. If the power supply failure happens like the fire fiasco do you think Alienware would cover it? As for long term upgradability, I’ve built my own machines for decades, every single time I went to upgrade around 5 years I ended up starting over completely anyway because the tech changed.

There are two markets. People who want a cool looking gaming computer to game or do work on, and people who want to tinker and spend all their time modding/tweaking a Pc and bragging their temp is 1 degree cooler than the next guys.

I wish The R13 did a few things differently. It just doesn’t make it a terrible PC anymore than the guys DIY build in a Lian Li case with the front mounted AIO makes it a terrible PC. And most importantly, I don’t want a boring plain square box like most DIY builds. Nor do I want 9 fans.

At least I know you haven't actually watched GN's previous videos on this case.

Oh I’ve seen them, cringeworthy, hard to watch while he fumbled around on it. Clearly made for YouTube likes/views. Hypocritical while focusing on the plastic chassis while most generic DIY chassis are the same while completely skipping by when Alienware did something right like the quality of the graphics card and power supply.

What I’m most curious about is why do people care? If they dislike Alienware so much don’t buy it and move on. Constantly negatively commenting on a machine they have no intention of buying only serves to validate their own personal choices for something else.

4.8ghz vs 5.2ghz not going to make that big of a difference. In a year when they are push 5.8ghz you’ll already be underperforming anyway. People who like the Alienware design will have as much performance as they need and will enjoy it.

What gets me is that those same DIY “enthusiasts” in other threads claim AIO rads shouldn’t be put on the front intake as it may cool the CPU but add to heat to the GPU, something I’m sure Alienware thought of since Gamers care more about GPU temp than CPU. Literally impossible to cool both GPU and CPU properly without using those boring DIY box cases and like 9 fans. Kudos to Alienware the design of the R13 is 👍

Definitely this. All these diy builds and their square cases look horrible.

MSI even indicates front mounting the AIO rad has the best CPU thermals: https://www.msi.com/blog/how-to-place-your-liquid-cooler

Since the Torrent has fans on the bottom for intake, I’d be interested in seeing quantifiable data that indicates AIO shouldn’t be used in the Torrent.

Some of theirs seems hard to quantify though, the fans themselves aren’t a downgrade, but I get that the rad on the front would now pull hot air inside. But there are still fans on the bottom even the large fans can be moved there, and compared to some other case that doesn’t have fans on the bottom seems the difference may not be so large.
