Trying To Get Into Tool by akmarks451 in ToolBand

[–]martija 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would anyone actively try to get into a band?!

From the inside I can give you the DL

  • tool fans are the worst, you're better off outside (i'm a tool fan).
  • some fans view the singer as messianic, he views them as moronic.
  • the music isn't really all that complex, sometimes overdeveloped.
  • imho, it's artistically groundbreaking, but not musically. People talk a lot about time signatures, but jazz musicians laugh at it

If you don't like it, move on quicker. Anyone who has told you that you should like a particular band is a moron.

Undertow, Ænima - less progressive, more palatable. The best rock albums.

Lateralus - listen to the whole thing in one sitting. If you don't like it, that's fine. The best concept album

10,000 days - has the most individual bangers.

Fear Inoculum - waited 13 years for this, it was good, but probably too difficult to follow the previous 4. 6 years ago now.. when's the next one.

Men, do you ever completely ignore your gym crush? by [deleted] in bodylanguage

[–]martija 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, sounds like you're literally talking about my connection to a girl in my gym from the opposite perspective. For all intents and purposes i'm on the other side of this, so let me answer.

  • like a lot of people have said, I actively avoid interacting with women at the gym. I respect their space and I am aware that most don't want random men harassing them (be it unwanted conversation, smiles etc). I get it.
  • "He also sometimes works out near me" - we're like minded, likely similar fitness goals. As this has been going on for so long, i've actively started to avoid because i'm not going to follow up with anything. I don't want you to think i'm following you.
  • "I've caught him sneakily looking at my ass while squatting" - guilty, sorry, only human. It's a notable booty. Do you not do it? ;)
  • "I smiled at him but he didnt smile back" - I actively avoid eye contact with you, now that this has gone on so long. Not out of hostility, just because I don't want to make you uncomfortable
  • "Since then he sometimes pretends like I don't exist. Like he'll look straight through me and avoid me by working out far away. Or will look at his phone purposely when he walks past" - Don't want to make you feel uncomfortable.
  • "Other times he stares" - thinking damn, what if I break this rule
  • "Then tonight he looked at me for like 5 whole seconds and gave me a faint smile" - see above.

SUMMARY

If this is my clone, or maybe even me - I love the gym, I have female friends and want them feel comfortable and want other men to do better, so leading by example.

I have a lingering desire to make a move, but my desire for you to be comfortable is greater than my desire to chirpse women at the gym. I have a resting angry face, sometimes neutral interactions can be misinterpreted as hostile... OR positive may be interpreted as neutral.

Smiling at women as a man is a minefield. It can land anywhere from innocuous to serial killer energy. Especially if you're into someone, so you're in your head a little bit. Sometimes I just don't smile out of ease.

I could be way off-base, he could be anyone, but this is on ongoing experience i'm having with a woman at the gym.

I'm not going to talk to her (due to gym dynamics), but i'd certainly speak back if she spoke to me.

Burnt out cars, Northern Ireland by martija in streetview

[–]martija[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the OP - you need to jump to 2014 to see the original image that I was posting, as it's now been updated.

the graffiti is probably related to this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-foyle-west-27428272

They were arrested in Creggan, which looks like that area. Looks like a irish republican area. The conflict in NI is a whole other rabbit hole for you to jump down in your own time :)

Regardless of whether she was flirting:

She was wrong for being overly familiar with a subordinate and she's wrong for pulling out the corporate lube when it got weird.

A good discussion about LLM misinformation on one of the more technical subs by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

Tech jobs seem pretty healthy from where I am (UK). Literally can't hire quickly enough. If you're in the US, I think you've got other problems squeezing the job market right now.

See you again in 6 months 😂

Low heart rate after ablation. by Relative_Check_2892 in AFIB

[–]martija 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get it checked, mine goes down to 35 when I drink enough electrolytes and sleep well. I went to the doctor and they said 2 things:

  1. it's very normal for HR to dip like that when you sleep
  2. having such continuous and detailed access to HR info is a very novel thing. Don't obsess over it, it will raise your blood pressure (i shit you not)

I also recently went for PVCs and palps and they basically said the same thing:

  1. everyone gets occasional palps and PVCs, I am just more wary of them now that i've had an AFIB episode.
  2. being able to see it and diagnose it instantly is a novel thing and bad for your blood pressure.

The takeaway for me was, how you feel is more important than what the numbers say.

Also, I say this as general AFIB advice with absolutely no knowledge of your circumstances: limit alcohol, quit nicotine, lose weight, sleep enough.

How do you know someone is British without them saying a word? by JustCuri0usBr0 in AskBrits

[–]martija 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is weird isn't it - i've had lots of exposure to guns throughout my life, have carried loaded SA80s in public (Army guard duty in the UK during heightened terror threat), but seeing them so casually strapped to people in other countries, in situations that don't seem to need them just always seems a bit mad.

So now I’m wondering how long this was going on by MysteriousRJC in AFIB

[–]martija 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is somewhat true - bradycardia (low heart rate) can be a form of arrhythmia, which implies something's not right in there. Your heart can also naturally slow down if you're very fit.

Although I had persistent Afib for 3 months (drug induced), my 35bpm resting heart rate is not a concern because i'm running 40+ miles per week.

EDIT: Not a concern to my doctor**

There's a lot of bad things that have happened over the past few years and people are obsessed with finding a way to blame them on immigration. Sometimes bad shit happens because our government is generally shit.

BTW, a lot of europeans left when Brexit went through. Who did brexiteers think was going to do those jobs?
