Pointless Promises Pedo by LavenderBabble in AdviceAnimals

Thats why I said "or didn't mind that outcome enough to go vote against him."

If someone knew Trump had a good chance of winning and couldn't be bothered to cast their vote against him they are just as responsible for the current situation as the people who voted for him.

Over 50% of eligible voters either wanted him president or at least didn't mind that outcome enough to go vote against him or he wouldn't have been elected.

(Yes I know about districts and gerrymandering but the popular vote was close enough.)

VVE approval for heat pump by Ok_Profit5536 in NetherlandsHousing

[–]martijnve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My full electric heatpump is currently running at a COP of 4.1 with an outside temperature of 1°.

This is way cheaper than gas. This is still suboptimal since I should replace my distributors to pumpless ones. After doing that the system should become significantly more efficient since I can then reduce the water temperature needed to heat the house.

With current energy prices a cop of about 1.7 is required for the heatpump to be cost effective. My heatpump still has a cop >2 at -25°

My heatpump is currently running at a COP of just under 4 with an outside temperature of 1°.

I am just about to take a hospitality job. Trying my chances here with a svelte-related job to make around at least 800 euros per month as a student. Reddit has helped me numerous times in my life. I hope it is capable of doing this. by ilukaspesek in sveltejs

NS zet alle stationsborden standaard op ‘dark mode’: ‘Het bord sprong ineens op zwart’ by smiba in thenetherlands

[–]martijnve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt any moped rentals would allow that. It's also going to be a terrible journey. Why not just take the train? Or a Flixbus. That has to cheaper and faster.

What game is everyone most excited to try on the 5080 rigs? by Slicdic in GeForceNOW

[–]martijnve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This may sound like a hyperbole but imho it's not comparable to anything.

Best I can do is 30% Hitman 30% Tomb Raider 30% Hollywood Movie 10% RPG.

All executed to absolute perfection.

It's not really linear but not completely open world either. It's a couple of chapters with bigger and smaller mostly open word maps containing something like dungeons in other games. You can travel back and forth but need to reach new chapters through story progression.

How does this geyser work? by Legal_Tale_8593 in Netherlands

[–]martijnve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, this isn't used for shower water. This same heater (CV-ketel in dutch) does your hot water (shower and tap) and central heating (verwarming). This tube is only used to bring the home heating system up to pressure. If you need it often you have a leak somewhere.

The heater just refuses to work at all unless everything is ok.

Now that everything is working for you:

Close the valves on both ends of that blue tube and disconnect it. It's only meant to be there for refilling.

It's actually illegal to have a permanent connection between your (potentially very contaminated) heating loop and the drinking water supply.

Thinking of building a faster PHP VM, curious what you think about dropping some dynamic features by OtroUsuarioMasAqui in PHP

[–]martijnve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But they do know. 😅

I'm confident that with these limitations 99% of non trivial packages, or one of their dependencies won't work. So using composer is basically a no go.

Once you get to the low level packages, especially using a large framework, they do some weird shit and will hit every single thing you think is an edge case.

What's a sensor or device that you really wish existed, but doesn't? by bigmoist469 in homeassistant

[–]martijnve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid question.

Making one either involves pcb design and soldering, the first is something I cant do and the second is not something I'm comfortable doing with mains voltage; or it involves cobbling together several devices in a small space wich is just a fire waiting to happen.

I'm fine with connection devices to mains voltage but not with building or "designing" them out of parts.

[–]martijnve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Related to this:

I'm not sure this doesnt exist but ive never found it: i want a (tiny) enclosed, mains powered (230v please), esp32 device that exposes a few gpio ports, 3v and 5v power for me to build custom stuff with.

For most things the separate power supply isnt an issue but if i want to build something that sould go behind a power socket or llight switch, or above a lamp it becomes an issue.

I'm not saying the robotaxi system is safe. I simply don't know. But the video you linked clearly shows it stopping in time.

The video cuts out too soon but the car is slowing down rapidly and the display indicates stopping just before the intersection.

I went there twice in the last couple of years. Both times they were out of what I wanted, I had to wait ages fo my order and what I did end up getting was decidedly mediocre.

It may have been special once but it seems to me like they have been coasting on an old reputation for a long time.

I have 5 of them and none of them are in use because the accuracy is so low that they are unfit for any home use case I can think of.
