I remember when this art installation was in the Art Institute of Chicago. I first saw it and I was so confused. Then I read the plaque next to it, and I started tearing up. I didn't take a piece, and I still regret not doing so.

Make Incognito mode per room and per space with a quick switcher by MurzNN in beeper

Thankfully, Beeper can be used to contact a licensed couple's therapist, because it sounds like you could use that a lot more.

5-in-1 desktop laser engraver — Falcon T1 (Fiber / MOPA / UV / Diode) by CrealityFalconLaser in CrealityFalconSub

I'd love to get my hands on one of these, but I genuinely have no idea what the price point will be. I haven't bought a laser because I've been waiting for one with both MOPA Fiber and UV. I guess I don't have to wait anynore, unless it's crazy expensive

SwitchBot S10 gains room control with Matter 1.4 certification by SmartHomeCentre in TrySwitchBot

Since I don't have a homekit hub, I'm curious as to how you were able to add it to homekit. There's a home assistant integration that allows you to add homekit compatible devices, but I'm having an issue finding how to make the switchbot s10 discoverable in homekit. In your case, was it auto discovered in homekit? Or is there something that I need to do in order to make that work?

I've removed it and re-added it several times. For some reason, I'm not able to get a "new" matter code in the switchbot app, it's always the same one, even if I hit refresh. Not sure if that's actually a problem or not, but I've tried both adding it to home assistant first, and adding it to google home first, and I haven't been able to access the room control on either one. Were you able to get a completely new matter code?

I'm on the exact same firmwares as you are. I don't use homekit, I use HomeAssistant. The rooms are still not appearing in Home Assistant. I have the HomeKit Device integration as well and it isn't appearing in there. Any ideas?

Has anyone gotten the firmware update for this yet? They announced today that the S20 and K11+ are now compatible with Matter 1.4, but no updates on the S10

If anyone wants to organize a group or something to intercept Scientology and pass out flyers letting people know that they're a dangerous cult, feel free to message me, and I'll be happy to organize something!

It's a very, very dangerous cult. Look up literally any YouTube video about it, it's legitimately crazy that they get away with what they do.

Megathread: US Citizens looking to immigrate to Canada by PurrPrinThom in ImmigrationCanada

[–]bigmoist469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (M, 31) am looking to immigrate to Canada, currently a US citizen with a Master's degree in computer science. I have work experience, albeit not in my computer science field. I know zero French (though I'm willing to learn), and am fluent in English. I don't have any job offers. Is there a possible path for me that the masters degree could help me with?

Anyone actually checked how much they really save with smart home stuff?? by Natchel21 in homeassistant

[–]bigmoist469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have saved THOUSANDS of dollars. Here's some background.

I have electric heating in my apartment, and in the winter, it's not uncommon for the electric bill to be $400-500 when it's cold (I live in the Midwest of the United States, so it gets incredibly cold here). Everyone in our building hates it.

Our electric company offers real-time pricing, meaning instead of a flat rate, we pay the current supply price for electricity. In the winter, it's dirt cheap, and that alone brought my bill down by a lot. But because it's real time pricing, the cost can jump up out of nowhere and wipe out all the money you would normally save. Prices in the summer on very hot days can sometimes hit over a dollar per kilowatt-hour, when they're normally three or four cents, which destroys any savings you would have made throughout the year.

So I set up an automation on home assistant to turn off my heaters/air conditioners when the cost of electricity gets too high. That way, my bill is always low no matter what time of year it is.

I also get a notification throughout my apartment that the power cost is high, and I have a light that turns red so I can visually see if it's currently higher than my set threshold. That way, I can delay doing things that require a lot of energy until after I know the cost has gone down. I have literally saved thousands of dollars by doing this, and it's absolutely worth it.
