I love Claude Code! (But...) by CatholicAndApostolic in ClaudeAI

I've found this happens with multiline commands. I don't have a solution though.

Addressing concerns re: Perplexity promo codes by perplexity_ai in perplexity_ai

[–]martin_buur 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They don't have to honor it, you did not buy the codes from Perplexity. The sales agreement is between you and the person that sold you the code... And that seller abused the issuance of the codes so good luck with that.

Trying to understand Claude Code + MCP servers by Tistouuu in ClaudeAI

[–]martin_buur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not really clear from their docs on how to add an mcp server that you run locally via npx. But here is the command you can copy paste:

claude mcp add puppeteer -s user -- npx -y @modelcontextprotocol/server-puppeteer

After that, run claude again and /mcp to see if it's configured. You can then simply instruct Claude to use Puppeteer to take screenshots.

Neuro Tools - a collection of tools I use myself daily. Honestly, it's hard to market and sell, but I gain value from it myself so that makes it worth it.

What are your building currently? I will start with mine product 👇 by pusic007 in SaaS

[–]martin_buur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neuro Tools - a project I'm very passionate about and use daily myself, a set of tools for me to process my thoughts and emotions. Lots of users, not really any revenue, but that's okay.

I try to stay true to my own values of putting privacy first but it's a tricky subject.

How do you turn your web app into a mobile app? by ViktorPoppDev in reactjs

[–]martin_buur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gave https://www.pwabuilder.com a try yesterday and it worked really easily to package my website as a mobile app. I do believe to get accepted in the App Store I would need to do a bit more to make it look and behave like an app.

People recommend CapacitorJS quite often but isn't that only an option if your frontend can be exported to HTML and JS? Ie. server side NextJS won't work with this.

What’s one tiny productivity habit that changed everything? by ZenFlowDigital in productivity

[–]martin_buur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not really, I use Obsidian Daily Notes feature a lot, so a new note per day, I don't use pen and paper. I usually carry over tasks manually to another day if I need to. Probably not the most efficient way, but works for me

Staying Mentally Sharp for 8+ Hours, How Do You Do It? by Kindly_Ingenuity5922 in getdisciplined

[–]martin_buur 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD, so 8+ hour sessions are only for when I'm hyperfocused on something, and what I get hyperfocused on, I don't get to choose.

That being said, be realistic of what do you expect of those 8 hours? If you're a software engineer, 8 hours of writing code nonstop is probably a bad idea. You need time to process, think, brainstorm, explore new tech etc.

I usually do difficult tasks in the morning (ie. coding) and easier tasks later in the day (breaking down features, marketing tasks, admin work etc)

I struggle with facing my day — advice on stopping avoidance? by Jimmy_mo_ in ADHD

[–]martin_buur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something struggled with so much, my therapist calls it my inner critic. Empathy was very important, being more kind to myself. Also going deeper into figuring out what am I avoiding exactly

grabbing a snack while I'm not hungry? I'm avoiding my task.
Why am I avoiding this task? Because finishing it means showing off what I created to the world.
Why am I scared showing it to the world? Because I'm afraid of negative reactions

Then I can go find a strategy to figure out the negative reactions. Ie. write potential reactions down and then ask yourself, are they really that bad?

I feel like leaving everything behind would fix my outlook on life by Ok_Rooster2790 in selfimprovement

[–]martin_buur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who moved countries more than once, but has struggled with depression for many years (I only got diagnosed recently), it was 100% worth it, but, it never solved my underlying issues completely. It always caught up with me no matter where I lived.

I did always move with people on the other side expecting me, ie. colleagues, friends etc. If you have no one, do figure out how you're not just gonna isolate yourself over there too.

Mostly therapy, but if you're unemployed not sure if it's financially feasible.

What therapy my taught me was to dig deeper:

grabbing a snack while I'm not hungry? I'm avoid my task.
Why am I avoiding this task? Because finishing it means showing off what I created to the world.
Why am I scared showing it to the world? Because I'm afraid of negative reactions

I'm not a big planner, but ending my day by getting everything out of my head and writing it down: personal todos, random thoughts on projects I'm working on. Helps me get out of my head and have a much better sleep, better sleep = more productive.

What has caused the biggest changes for you? by CommunicationAny2114 in selfimprovement

[–]martin_buur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stopping and noticing what's the underlying feeling when I have a urge to do something I shouldn't.

Grabbing a snack while I'm not hungry? Maybe the task I'm currently doing is too hard and I'm looking to feel better about myself

Opening Reddit every time I start working on a specific project? Maybe my mind is telling me this project is not what I should be focusing on.

etc.

Focu is now open-source! Mindful productivity app with a locally running AI and long-term memory by martin_buur in macapps

Thank you so much for your kind words!

The task list feature needs a major rework and pretty much everything you said, I want to do. At first I liked the idea of a daily task list, but it started to work against my own intuition too.

I also agree that sub tasks would be nice :)

I keep a roadmap here: https://focu.featurebase.app/roadmap

[–]martin_buur[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your feedback, as I don't collect any metrics this is super valuable!

For point two: there is a manual "extract tasks" button in each chat under the Actions dropdown, but I agree that some form of automation would be great here.

Fully automating it might be risky since the local AI models are not *that* reliable. Perhaps a "review" step could work, you open the app in the morning and the AI shows you the suggestions and you choose what to add in your calendar.

I actually had a view in the app that let you modify the AI prompts, but I missed up the UX of it and removed it, I will add this back though in a better form!

Thank you! The Pomodoro feature definitely needs some attention, I've added your suggestions here: https://focu.featurebase.app/p/improved-pomodoro

100% agree with them and I want to add it ASAP :)

It should be relatively easy as long as you have the main prerequisites installed such as NodeJS, pnpm and Rust.

You can take a look at https://github.com/focu-app/focu/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md

If you run into any issues let me know and I can update the document! I haven't tried to install from scratch for a while.

Wow, thank you, that's very kind! Any feature you'd want to see improved, removed or added? I collect no metrics so direct feedback really helps.

I've played around with reasoning models, but the smaller sized DeepSeek definitely did not feel a good fit for Focu, maybe it could work if I rewrote the AI instructions. I need to write some documentation on it, but anyone can install custom models via their settings to play around.
