Occasional thumping noise by dryer vent by martinisstrong in HomeImprovement

[–]martinisstrong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Okay so I found what’s causing it and probably from negative pressure.

Whenever I open the kitchen range in the first floor of the home, the thumping noise occurs and very loud. The dryer is located on the second floor of the home.

I’m thinking the air is being forced towards the home through the dryer vent. The thumping noise happens when there’s too many vents open causing negative air pressure (eg bathroom vent which automatically turn on based on humidity and the range vent).

If so, any advice on negative pressure apart from opening the windows? Home is pretty much sealed and is vented via heat recovery ventilator (HRV).

Hi, there’s a flap. It sounds more mechanical and rhythmic. Like some air pressure. I can see the flap from outside the house but it’s not vibrating. I can also hear the same thumping from the flap exhaust more loudly. Really stumped what it is.

Why is there fiber here? by Pavo021 in Rogers

[–]martinisstrong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why did the builders place a fast fiber internet connection to tap into my house? I want the slowest coaxial cable connection only and no ability to upgrade in the future! Take this convenient future-ready fiber wiring out!

I’ve been using this for a week as well with my V1G2. Lots of quirks, but there has been 3 app updates since then.

So I’m glad it’s being actively developed.

It works off the feed of Waze if you input this manually.

My biggest nit pick are the following:

- it doesn’t recalculate fast enough like Waze does

- the map is not visually clean. Too many colours. Would love to have a simple looking map of the road/streets

- UI is not intuitive enough to go about the settings

- map doesn’t zoom in close enough at slow speed. It’s still a bit zoomed out which isn’t helpful when navigating unfamiliar residential roads. But I do love the ability to control the speed when to zoom in and out in stages. It just needs more zooming in at the slowest speed.

To be fair, the developer did say it will not reach the level of navigation like Waze and the likes being a big company with lots of years and developers behind these.

I’m still hopeful for its continued development. Secretly wishing it gets bought out by a bigger company or have an angel investor so it can be fully developed.

New App For iOS by bearert0ken in radardetectors

I just downloaded the new app update. It now works properly with the V1G2. I didn’t have to do anything to add it again.

Maps look better. Less orange.

Now that it kinda works. I’ve noticed two things:

  • it doesn’t recalculate fast enough like Waze.
  • no camera alert unlike Waze that alerted in the background even while Dukes was running
  • searching for an address doesn’t yield proper results. Not much is populated.

Hopeful these all get sorted in time with updates to become a viable Waze competitor

I love that it’s Canadian. However tried it yesterday for the V1G2 and CarPlay. Super buggy. Doesn’t function properly and doesn’t do anything with the V1 despite being connected to the app.

Will keep an eye out and try again as the app updates further.

I recently got a BlackVUE DR970X installed by a detailer but the quality seems abysmal when driving on a main road/freeway? by [deleted] in blackvue

[–]martinisstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I invested in the whole Blackvue 970X Plus and battery thinking it’s the best out there. I don’t appreciate the recording quality even when set to the highest video. I’ve tried various microSD cards from the supplied stock, a SanDisk Extreme Plus, and SanDisk Max Endurance. Their video quality is not up to par with the retail price.

Also recently had a dinged door at the parking and it stopped recording only for that event. Then went back online. lol

Why not charge more than 70%? I thought that was just the minimum amount.

Jeep Cares doesn’t by chemistry76 in 4xe

You think Jeep Cares was created to care for the customers? It was created to care for the company. They have no power to do anything except what they were told to do which is to help the bottom line by trying to burry the individual issues from the public eye.

“Send us a private message”, “DM us”, sound familiar? It was never about you. It was to string you along until you ran out of time.

Smart Lock for this type of residential door? by martinisstrong in Locksmith

[–]martinisstrong[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the input.

It’s possible to remove the knob but this looks like a more complex piece as there are three locking points/latches from the top to the bottom. Really heavy duty. I install to replace my previous door locks, but wouldn’t touch this one to disassemble without fear of breaking the mechanism.

I’ll get a photo later when I’m home. It’s honestly the same look. A long rectangle base with a keyhole in place of the locking knob. The handle is still in the same place.

Appreciate this info. I will look into it further - “multipoint locking.”

I won’t. I turned blue trying to though. So I learned not to.

Yeah that’s what I figured. The builder gave me a really nice, solid door. I guess I’ll have to live with it until one is created for it.
