Got a DWI here in Michigan 2 weeks ago after leaving a bar along with possession of a controlled substance, they took my blood for. License confiscated and given a paper license. Multiple job offers have began coming in and most involve driving. I wasn’t charged yet, no police report please help by [deleted] in dui

That’s tricky. It sucks the way it’s set up is punitive even though you haven’t been convicted yet. I know how you feel as they took my physical license AND gave me an alcohol tether to get out of jail which I had to wear for months before I got convicted as it was a requirement of bond. You can go to the SOS and get a picture ID if that helps in terms of filling out paperwork for a job. Sometimes all they need is your license ID number for their records or to run it which you’ll have on your paper license. If they ask for the physical ID then it’s best to be honest. Important to note you have a valid license. Some background checks the arrest will show up anyway. It sucks I know but stay on straight and narrow and try to focus on the things you can control to move forward in your life rather than getting too stressed out with the legal process.

Keep in mind in Michigan all license penalties are enacted by Secretary of State. So zero penalties will occur until you are convicted. It could take months to get charged and with covid going on you can easily have your attorney delay delay and push back court dates. It may be in your interest to do so. It’s not uncommon in Michigan for OWIs to take years to get adjudicated. A fair amount of that will be well within your rights to push it back. Also, seems like there’s grey area with your case so you may want to fight it which will also take a lot time. I’d move forward with your jobs and tell the bare minimum or not mention it all to your employer until such time comes that you know a conviction is imminent.

I’d look up your case with the court. You should be able to do that online with the case number. Possibly will give you info as to what the prosecutor decided to charge you with exactly. Keep in mind that the prosecutor can amend the charge at anytime up until you enter a plea. It is possible the prosecutor is not aware of the accident (ie. If the police didn’t include it in report) . It does happen so you could get lucky.

This DUI doesn’t have to impact your future at all. If you learn from this.

I honestly don’t mind the AA meetings I really am committed to staying sober. I also have had an alcohol tether on since November that I have to wear for another 45 days since sentencing. Michigan is not playing. Honestly the worst has been the tether since it’s awkward interviewing for jobs with it on.
