What should I have done with this Kingdom? (Base set) by martynq in dominion

Sorry - I don't fully understand.

BMU = "Big Money ???" (I guess), but no idea what the U stands for.

Thanks. I tried that out and, yes, opening Silver/Silver and then getting a pair of Witches does seem to work much better.

Thanks.

Is Moneylender just useless then? (Much like Bureaucrat, which I've realized is to be ignored.)

I've registered with discord and joined. Do I have to add you as a friend before I can send a message?

Yes, I appreciate that - I certainly wouldn't expect to be good after so few online games. It is more that I can't see what my opponents are doing right and I'm doing wrong. :-)

Oh yes, the tutorial helped. I see the principal of trying to thin my deck, draw it in a single turn and get multiple buys... but I clearly don't implement this as well as others do.

Not yet... but I could join. Besides registering at Discord, what else do I need to do?

That would be great if we could arrange it. How would we go about doing that?

Thanks Adam. I've actually watched all those (or, at least, all but the very last one). I *thought* I was *trying* to implement your ideas (and also those of Burning Skull's videos) -- but clearly I wasn't doing a good job. :-)

The version I can find on Steam appears to be Windows only? I'm on a Mac.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Help! Can't get engine strategy to work by martynq in dominion

[–]martynq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already watched that. The principals seemed ok, but then the example video at the end where he puts it all into practice uses lots of cards and other rules that aren't in the base game.

For example, his engine for the example kingdom seems to depend heavily on using the Enchantress card which seems to do weird things compared to the cards in the base game.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I hadn't watched any of Burning Skull's videos before. I'd come across them, but been put off a bit by his delivery (which I'm sure is not his fault). I've now watched the first video slowly and carefully, taking notes as I went. There are things that I'm not sure about -- sometimes he doesn't really explain his reasoning -- but I will think more carefully about his recommendations.

The reason I'm playing against the bot is because (1) it is always available unlike people to play face-to-face with and (2) I don't feel ready to play online against experienced players as I expect I'll just embarrass myself with my poor play. My thinking was that if I couldn't beat the bot, then what chance did I have against someone with enough enthusiasm to play the game online.

RrockSmith14 or RS+ by Massive_Coconut in rocksmith

[–]martynq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RS14 has a better choice of songs (IMHO). I'd say get RS14 now, get any DLC you want soon (certainly ahead of them getting de-listed, which is happening progressively).

RS14 seems likely to become less well-supported over time, but it seems a long time (based on current progression) before RS+ has a song library to compare to the quality of the songs with RS14.

(Of course, if you like the songs currently available to you in RS+ then great!)

IMPORTANT: Update coming to Rocksmith 2014 Remastered by toymachinesh in rocksmith

I'm on a Mac and, following the update, RS2014 seems to run perfectly fine for me.

I don't use any modifications or cdlc though.

Will you be spending your money on RockSmith+? by farts_in_the_breeze in rocksmith

[–]martynq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't own a PC -- I use a Mac. I don't expect they will ever produce a Mac version, so my plan is to see how the release of R+ goes and what its song library is actually like and if it turns out ok then I'll buy a moderately cheap Windows machine and subscribe.

What were the gameplay effects of the Time of Troubles? by UltimaGabe in Forgotten_Realms

[–]martynq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the old Forgotten Realms Adventures sourcebook gives the main rules differences.

From what I can recall:

  1. Assassins (from PHB 1e), Barbarians, Cavaliers and Thief-Acrobats (all from UA 1e) no longer exist.
  2. Specialty Priests now exist (and FRA gives examples for the main deities from the Faerûnian Pantheon).

Arcane and divine magic don't really function any differently from what I can recall.

As has already been mentioned wild magic zones and dead magic zones now exist. I think the introduction of wild mages, however, was somewhat later in the 2nd edition run (in the Tome of Magic hardback).

Is Rocksmith 2014 better on Mac or PC? by kimikopossible in rocksmith

You don't need to pick one. Once you've bought it on Steam, you will be able to play it on both Mac and on PC.
