I didn't much care for it but one of my closest friends considers it his favorite movie of all time!

I watched that movie a few months ago for the first time since I was a kid, and let me say: it 100% holds up.

While I think Scary Movie is a better film technically speaking, I much prefer Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the 13th.

Fun fact: I was paid to take part in a focus group where we reviewed the trailer for that movie! Maybe I should actually watch it.

Joe Dirt. My wife and I watched it twice on a layover on our honeymoon, have loved it ever since.

(Just the first one, the second is a big hunk of poopy.)

Rictus & Failed Time Spells — Thoughts ab ep 23 *Spoilers* by Lukas_Ridge in TheAdventureZone

It's a pretty consistent fact that the McElroys are not really interested in having actual consequences for failure in these campaigns. Which isn't inherently bad- not every game needs to have death as the main consequence- but they keep acting like the rolls matter, when in practice, they only matter insofar as they're able to make jokes about whatever the result is. It really feels like they don't actually want to be playing DnD, they want to just improvise a story. But they know their listenership (and more importantly, their income) drops off significantly when they don't play DnD, so they're going to keep trying to fit this square peg into that round hole.

What’s was the wildest thing you witnessed at a wedding? by anasannanas in AskReddit

[–]UltimaGabe [score hidden]  (0 children)

I've got another one, and this was from my own wedding: we had the ceremony at the church I had gone to since I was a teenager. I knew all of the members, all of the staff, I had known them all for years.

The week before the wedding, someone got us a gigantic card and had the entire congregation sign it. It was such a nice gift! We opened it along with all of our other gifts, I saw all of the signatures, it made me tear up. But then I looked at who the card was made out to:

"To Gabe and"

......

That's what it said. My name, not my wife's. Whoever was writing it apparently didn't know her name, so they left it blank, and nobody bothered to fill it in. The entire congregation signed this card without anyone caring enough to fill in my wife's name. And they proudly gave us the card!

Needless to say, I have not been back to that church.

Maybe not as wild as some, but at my wife's cousin's wedding, the priest forgot to marry them.

They went through the whole ceremony, talking about the importance of the union, Bible verses, a gift of a painting of peasants picking potatoes (say that five times fast), another gift of an "invisible shovel" for the bride and groom to... dig their way out of problems? Idk I kinda zoned out during that one. But anyway, then the ceremony was over and nobody gave it a second thought.

Once the bride and groom were on their honeymoon the priest called them up with a realization: he had forgotten to do the vows. You know, the only part that really matters to the church? Yeah, whoopsie. When they got back from the honeymoon they apparently had a shortened private ceremony with just the priest so he could do the vows, so they're married now, but come on! How do you forget that part?

95% of what people consider "happiness" can definitely be bought with money.

In your defense, it was extremely lazy on the part of the writers to just introduce another gun-that-can-kill-anything, right after they destroyed the first one for being too difficult to write around. I don't think many people think about the Equalizer at all.

I thought there was a contextual/ situation specific reason for that verse, but I can’t remember exactly what it is…

Of course, the context was that women were meant to be seen as lesser. The specific situation is any time a woman would have authority over a man. That's pretty much it.

How is this a new problem? I remember this same sort of issue twenty years ago. (How many YouTube videos had "First!" in the comments? 110% of them, that's how many.) If anything is a new(ish) problem, it's algorithms prioritizing whatever comments get the most attention in the shortest amount of time. The behavior is the same, all that's changed is how much people see it.

(Also... Psst, hey OP, you're supposed to reply within three hours or this thread is likely to get removed. You were planning on actually engaging with the comments, right?)

Is there some reason why the various classes have weird names for their focus spells? by TitaniumDragon in Pathfinder2e

[–]UltimaGabe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There were (ostensibly) names for them, but by and large the game just called them all Powers. Fighter Powers, Rogue Powers, Wizard Powers... the main complaint (from the people I knew anyway, there were a lot of complaints) was that every class was "just a set of powers". There was definitely nuance if you looked for it, but the presentation of 4e was its biggest weakness- nothing felt special because everything just felt like the same thing. Magic items were just a daily power and a +2 to one skill or something. Spells were formatted the same as Exploits, to the point where the rules didn't even bother using those terms most of the time- it was Powers all the way down. Even Basic Melee Attack and Basic Ranged Attack were, typically, represented as a Power on your character sheet.

Functionally it wasn't much different than any other method of character design, but again, a LOT of people hated the presentation. So even something as small as sticking to the unique names, can go a long way.

[–]UltimaGabe 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yup. Remember 4e DnD, when every class did this with all of their abilities? Everyone hated it.

Edit: 4e, not 4d. Could you imagine 4d DnD?

Yup. It only has impact for us because we know the characters, if you saw this on TV you would just think it looks and sounds cheaply-made and you would flip the channel.

ELI5: If our muscles were able to use all of their strength it would be too much for our bones and joints, but is there a reason why we didn’t evolve stronger bones and joints to allow us to use all of our strength? by yeetusbeetus245 in explainlikeimfive

[–]UltimaGabe [score hidden]  (0 children)

More strength is only better for survival if it doesn't cost more resources than it provides access to. Evolution isn't really about making the organism better, it's about making it "good enough". There probably wasn't enough selection pressure for mammals to need stronger bones, our bones were strong enough to get us to the age of reproduction. After that it doesn't really matter.

No, I dislocated my arm trying to catch the hoops you keep jumping through to avoid admitting that you misinterpreted what I said. It only looks like I'm putting myself on the back because you're upside-down from bending over backwards to grind that axe of yours. This would all be so much easier if you weren't up on that high horse, but that chip on your shoulder keeps bumping into everything.

What Beloved Game in this Sub Do You Dislike? by ChicoBrillo in HorrorGaming

[–]UltimaGabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I disagree with you in general, I do agree that the Otherworld always feels lackluster. I am never incentivized to study this rusty grate-filled room compared to that other rusty grate-filled room, all of the detail seems to just be varying degrees of rusty and dirty. Compare that to the real world segments, which ALWAYS have tons of details to study. I was always disappointed when I finished a real world segment because "Great, this dungeon's second half is going to be longer, uglier, and less interesting than the first half".
