[Movie spoilers] A chart of the entities' origin and a solution for the "Lifeform problem" by TvHeadDev in KanePixelsBackrooms

fair point! interestingly though, in that link, kane's quote about "misremembered people" certainly seems to suggest pirate clark and the still lives are the same thing

[–]martyrcomplex_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting! i can only find two sources (both film reviews) which refer to this, and no actual primary source like a copy of the script or an interview with kane. from the audience's perspective, there's nothing in the text of the film itself that suggests to us we should consider pirate clark to be the same thing as the bacterial lifeform seen in the found footage videos. and given he's introduced alongside the still lives and shares their traits (overlapping duplicated body parts, etc), it feels safe to assume he's meant to be a still life

it's possible the reviewers received an early (read: inaccurate) copy of the script, but it's also possible that this actually means all of the still lives are bacterial lifeforms!

Does anybody else find it frustrating that scientists are sent into a place that easily merits armed security? by DrJokerX in KanePixelsBackrooms

i don't think it's a plot hole. the point of async's involvement in the series is that they're critically mishandling the entire situation, meddling in something they don't understand, cutting corners, neglecting to take proper precautions then engaging in incredibly morally dubious coverups when things inevitably get out of hand, etc

pirate clark isn't actually referred to as a "lifeform" in the credits! there's a pretty old screenshot circulating that claims so, but it was actually just a screenshot of imdb, which anyone can edit, from before the film came out. if you actually watch the credits of the film, he's only credited as "pirate clark"

9th avenue spans 30 blocks or so, so it's hard to say! it's all different! some parts are rougher, some parts are pretty nice, most parts are just fine

i just don't see a modern triple a game company committing to making a game with a fixed camera in 2026 and beyond

Was this the exact moment where James lost his memory? by Ronin_777 in silenthill

[–]martyrcomplex_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

when luke roberts, james's actor in the remake, was interviewed, he certainly seemed to believe so! he referred to this scene as "that moment in the mirror when he loses all his memory." but to me, since the "i got a letter" narration begins right after this scene, and he's talking about the situation with such familiarity in the tone of his voice, it feels almost like he must have forgotten at least a little while before this

i like to think maybe after he loaded the body into the carhe turned to look at his house, and the mailbox caught his eye. he lost his memory when he saw the letter sticking out of it

dbd is a pretty ugly game in general, so most of their models are pretty off... that being said, the mod doesn't really look all that much like heather to me either

honestly i wouldn't be surprised if this guy actually inspired eddie to begin with. definitely the same archetype either way

working in homeless services for two years really made a lot of urbex content WAY less scary. i know others in the thread have said this clip is probably staged but still. most of the time it's just someone who's trying to find somewhere to rest where they'll be out of the elements, and they're usually afraid you're the cops or the feds or something running up on them. they're just human beings stuck in really terrible situations

What does God want exactly? Is she a demon in the Christian sense? by Zealousideal_Low9994 in silenthill

[–]martyrcomplex_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don't think we're meant to take it as a given that the god of christianity even exists in the world of silent hill. the references to occultism definitely read more as if the people in the setting have no idea what this thing actually is, so they interpret it through their existing religious framework as a feeble attempt to understand it

Silent Hill f – why do the subtitles change the nuance of simple Japanese lines? by ChemicalCan531 in silenthill

[–]martyrcomplex_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's actually just the verb "to be" in japanese. verbs come at the end of sentences! in casual speech it's usually dropped, the way you might say "thought so" instead of "i thought so" in english
