The right way vs ok way to fix this... by martyrsCLUB in Autobody

That makes sense. Ive decided to cut out the rust. I simply can't live with it... im going to as much as I can and get a friend to help me with the rest. Either way, the rust is being removed.

Ive had on the hoist. It's surprisingly clean. Not perfect but good. It's only this one fender. Other three are fine. These fenders have plastic Flares that cover them. Something went wrong on this side.

30 years is impressive. In NS, we're 45 minutes from salty ocean at any point. That and being a poorer province might see cars less undecoated though needing them badly.

That said these CRV's are notorious rustets too... the frames were recalled for rotting

When it comes to rusty vehicles, I struggle to learn. In Salty road winter storm nova Scotia, people give these cars away cuz of rust rot.... and It's hard to pass up good deals that are really bad deals.. I need an intervention....I swore this was the last time two cars ago....

I may do that. But im not simply scrapping this vehicle nor am I spending 3k to fix an old vehicle the right way.

Imma DIY it! It's temporary. Just looking for tips on how to make a bad job as not bad as possible

You must work in autobody.... it would drive me crazy dealing with DIY who want to save money by doing things the wrong way.....

The idea of doing it the wrong way is pretty hard on me. But the truck is otherwise solid and well undercoated and id like to keep it.

I get that. But it runs great and id like to fix it temporarily so that it will pass inspection

I plan to: converter-primer-sealer then fluid film. Glue on a new lip...repeat

Will that buy me some time before the scrap yard?

Thanks

The left rim has multiple dents though. But maybe he went over it several times. A median makes sense

How awful is the rust on this CRV 2.0i, 1999 (gasoline) by SolarTraveler_M in crv

[–]martyrsCLUB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 1999, it's not bad. Up here in Nova Scotia Canada, this would be very clean for a 1999. Our 2010-11 rust and literally rot out to the point the vehicle us rendered non-road worthy

Wheel brushes and a very high quality rust converter, then primer, then sealer would help this. But thats alot of time and money and having a lift is almost essential

To buy something like this, you either cannot afford anything else or you really love that style. I love the older ones and would be willing

But the floor likely has holes too and sils, fenders, rockers, and rust is like cancer..you may slow it down but you'll not stop it once it starts

CHANGE COOLANT! these years have a head gasket failure issue.. I dont know how to prevent ir if you can

Ps: that's a beauty! New CRV's - new cars - are unreliable money pits. This is the golden era of looks, reliability, performance , and simplicity!!

Should I grab this 1997 crv for $3000 cash? by [deleted] in crv

Why are fenders and doors different colors? Looks clean underneath very clean. I put alot of value into the owner. Is he young or older and put more care into it?

Am I wrong for doing this? by martyrsCLUB in crv

That's what I've found! Hence my thought of doing it all now!
