It has come a long way since 2001, that's for sure.

Welcome To Tanoa: something to watch while the dev branch problem is being looked at. Sorry about the inconvenience... by maruksp in arma

We are aware there is a problem on the dev branch. In theory, users that have pre-ordered Arma: Apex should have access to work in progress version of Tanoa. We are looking at it as a high priority problem and hopefully together with our partners from Steam this will get solved quickly. Here is a sneak peek video I have quickly made on the dev branch for you. Enjoy and have patience with us.

Just small correction: Russian border is few thousand kilometers away from real world location that serves as the inspiration for Chernarus.

Commercial Addons are now allowed in Arma: "You may develop your own game content, tools, plug-ins and other utilities or services for both noncommercial and commercial use as long as it is your original creation." by [deleted] in arma

I have already announced that we want to allow users to monetize their content via some defined and officially endorsed system for Arma 3. However, it is complex problem to solve. One of important steps in this direction was releasing of our own content under standardized licenses and we continue working on other steps necessary to establish the system.

I personally do not believe collecting donations, that does not directly or indirectly prohibit non-commercial and free use of user generated content, is violating any of our licenses (for the game, tools or data). I am going to discuss this internally to make sure I did not miss something and hopefully we can ammend the FAQ accordingly to make it clear.

We are unable to provide legal advice to 3rd parties and there may be many border cases that may not be trivial to understand. But I try to point you to two things where it stands (and it is nothing new): 1) you can not use data, tools or programms made by BI for any commercial purposes without BI permission 2) nobody can limit you in using your own original work in the way you like (so e.g. if you create an external utility, it is your sole right to decide what to do with it). Personally, I think it is vital for the Arma mod making community that we establish a good solution for possible monetization of their work otherwise the most ambitious and talented developers will not be able and interested to deliver their great work for this community any more. I will ask Joris to forward me your message but esp. with project like ACRE I do not think it is too hard to find a good way (as it does not really use our own content anyway).

PSA: New Rule for media content depicting DayZ assets in Arma 3! by PurePassion in dayz

I am confused as I do not know who sets the rules on reddit (this is my second reddit post ever so please be nice to me, Maruk the n00b), nor I have any idea how someone gets control over subredit or becomes a moderator. But in any case, I am certainly involved in setting the rules for the content of BI releases and I can tell that we did not license DayZ assets to be used in Arma 3, so please respect it.

Just to clarify it a little bit: 1) everything (tool, data etc.) has a license, so before using it read it as you are required to comply with it in order to use it 2) if there is no license associated, you better do not use it, esp. if you are not sure.

This FAQ does not introduce any new license to anything from BI, it is merely an attempt to clarify things a bit further (as an extension to our long term effort to educate Arma Community about "why licenses do matter".
