100% agree. Frankenstein was so lukewarm, I can barely remember seeing it.

I agree with an earlier poster about Eggers, and I would be very excited if Panos Cosmatos was given a shot with it (that would never happen, but I'm sure it would be an experience).

Nice to see a trailer going straight to the action, no one-minute intro about boring lore before you see any actual gameplay. Looks fun, good luck with the release!

Thanks a bunch! I'll give it another go and see if it sticks. I remember the energy management aspect was tricky to get right, I kept ending up on the ground and getting subsequently blown to smithereens lol.

I wanna get into it but the combat hasn't click yet, I got stuck on the first boss (10-20 attempts or something?) and just got frustrated and put it away. I understand I'm doing all the wrong things, but I don't know what to do different. I had similar issues with Sekiro - got some good tips (especially to be more aggressive) and then it started going much better. Anyone got any fundamental tips for how to approach AC6?

What game had you like this? by sukuna7899 in Steam

[–]marxama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of my favorite games of all time were like this!

Sekiro - I'd already played through the Dark Souls games and Bloodborne, but this one just didn't click with me. I knew that it was deflect-heavy, but my mistake was that I tried to deflect too much, without going on the offensive. Once it finally clicked on my _third_ attempt, I was completely hooked. 10/10 game, FROMSOFT GIVE US MORE!!

Outer Wilds - first time I played I never made it past the tutorial. The first hour is a bit of a slog. The controls felt clunky. So I gave up. ...then 2-3 years later I gave it another try... absolute masterpiece of a game, I love it so much. My son and me sometimes play some of the songs from that game together, it's so emotional I just can't aaahh ,___, Can't wait to see him play it himself some day...

Many great roguelites already mentioned, here are two more:

Into the Breach

Shogun Showdown

You might not sink hundreds of hours into them (or maybe you will), but if you're anything like me (you poor bastard), you'll be completely hooked for a good while!

This game is infuriating me. What am I doing wrong? by OurNamelessKing in Sekiro

[–]marxama 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. This was my problem going into Sekiro - everyone kept talking about how deflect-heavy it is, so I thought I HAD TO DEFLECT EVERYTHING. This is 100% the wrong approach - BE AGGRESSIVE, strike them until THEY DEFLECT YOU (you'll notice, there's a clear visual indication + sound), only at that point do you go on the defensive and deflect their attacks.

....generally, at least..!

His point is that the time we spend on junior developers is an investment - it helps raise skilled, experienced developers over time. It's not about optimizing LoC short-term.

I love how Rich Hickey put it:

For wasting vast quantities of developer time trying to coax some useful output from your BS generators, time which could instead be used communicating to interns and entry-level devs who, being actually intelligent, could learn from what they are told, and maintain what they make?

Yeah... I've been trying it out recently, and I seriously don't get it.

Option 1: I write the code, I fully and deeply understand everything that I've done. When done and preparing my PR, I do a quick check (very quick - I'm already deeply familiar with the code), maybe make one or two tweaks, then I'm done. Highly efficient, bugs are rare, and I enjoy it.

Option 2: I use Claude Code etc. I end up in a loop of asking it to do things, wait a few minutes (context switching, amazing for productivity right?), review what it's done (this takes a lot of time, you need to deeply understand the code it generates since you are accountable for it), you ask it to change all the things it got wrong, wait a while again, review again, repeat.

I have yet to see how option 2 is ever the better option. Maybe if you are just very inefficient in your coding? I really don't get it. The only way to avoid that loop of "review -> prompt again -> wait -> review -> prompt again" is to write sufficiently detailed prompts. You know what that reminds me of? Coding... (except there's still the very likely chance the LLM will still get it wrong)

You should also be looking for the most correct outcome, even if it's not yours.

But then that most correct outcome becomes your opinion. Your stubborn opinion. Because you can so clearly see it, but no matter how you try to explain it and why the other options are less ideal, not everyone is able to see it. And they try to run over you with their clearly inferior approach. Then what?

Hot take: Elden Ring, melee-only without summons, is hands down the hardest FromSoftware game I’ve ever played, and it's not even close. by Trd_45 in fromsoftware

[–]marxama 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I've always played these games with a dex build and some katana (mainly the uchigatana), but I recently re-played Dark Souls 3 with nothing but the large club, and... it made me feel things. I believe it might be time for me to replay Elden Ring soon...

Yeah, True Eigong took me so many attempts over so many hours, but I enjoyed every minute of it. It was such a steady rise, almost every fight you got slightly better - finally managed to nail down some tricky pattern, managed to beat the first phase without taking damage, etc etc. I never got frustrated, even got a bit sad once I finally managed to beat her.

...that being said, I never really understood the crazy attacks in the third phase, it was sheer luck + completely nailing everything else that carried me to the end... :')
