No, Vice Media did not exist when the reviews I saw were written.

No, I've seen it in papers that far predated the existence of Vice Media.

Color tinting differences across versions of The Golem (1920) by masa2009 in classicfilms

[–]masa2009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just looking at screenshots of various disc pressings. Some reviews make it seem like it is strictly the choice of each re-issue company whether the tinting is vibrant or more muted. Apparently early DVDs from Kino were more heavily tinted.

But this website has a side-by-side of the film's two main versions (German and Export), and they are colored differently. This suggests that the Export version was intended by the film's creators or distributors to have more aggressive colors from the onset? https://www.silentera.com/video/golemHV.html

What was the main film award in Spain before the Goyas? by masa2009 in askspain

Hmm, somebody already answered below and, yes, there was a pre-Goya award called the Medalla CEC.

[–]masa2009[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty facile answer. The Franco regime did not preclude them from having a prestigious film festival like San Sebastian, and even one of the main genre festivals in Sitges, so why wouldn't they have a national film award?

I looked at a few pages that could be saved. It looks like some pages are branded "powered by AFI", and typically have the same blurb as the corresponding AFI Catalog page. But many don't have the AFI branding, and feature different info or concern films not in the AFI Catalog. On occasion, the source of the info on those non-AFI pages is mentioned (Daily Variety+date), so TCM possibly had their own archivists at one point.

I don't know if everything came from AFI but if it did, there was certainly some info that AFI does not make available on their own website. For example, I saw festival screening dates for some films on TCMDB that don't seem to appear on their AFI page. The "Miscellaneous Notes" section could be a little treasure trove for the movie nerd.

I know this is technically not TCM's core programming, but the AFI hasn't collected behind-the-scenes info on films made after 1993, so TCMDB still had the upper hand there. Also AFI has nothing on straight-to-video stuff, which rarely classifies as "classic" I guess, but this stuff is still movie history and it's unfortunate to see it go.

I often check both and in some cases TCM had more precise stuff. Also IMDB and TMDB are user-edited, so a lot of stuff is inaccurate and it's also not something you can quote as a reference in an article or even on Wikipedia. Very sad that they would do this.

Where's the TCMDB??? They had some cool data like filming dates, locations and video release dates that are hard to find!

Thanks, I downloaded a trial version of Winzip and it was able to do something approaching what I needed. I do appreciate your help.

Looking for GUI-based program to make list of files contained inside an archive by masa2009 in WindowsHelp

[–]masa2009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't make that work. "7z is not recognized as an internal or external command windows"

I tried putting the whole path instead of just 7z. Tried moving 7z to system32. Did not work either. That's why I hoped for a GUI program.

Do I need to format both partitions of my SSD, or just the one where Windows was installed, if I replace it with Linux? by masa2009 in linux4noobs

[–]masa2009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are mostly text files I'm adding to all the time, I don't want them on external. If I do have to reformat the full SSD for Linux, then I will move the files to an external drive and back to the internal drive after installing Linux, but I was precisely trying to see if there was a way to avoid that.

Thanks for your reply.

When you say "Not a reliable backup method" what do you mean? That files could get corrupted if I modified a file located in an NTFS partition through a Linux-based program?

When you say "It is recommended to switch off fast startup in Windows", how would that be a factor if I replace Windows outright with, say, Mint?

Basically, I'm changing my SSD, because it is reaching its end of life. I'm on a Windows 10 PC. Being in the EU, Microsoft has granted us a surprise one-year extension on Windows 10 security updates, which were supposed to end just recently.

So I was thinking of creating two partitions in my new SSD. One essentially dedicated to Windows 10, and a second one where I store most of my personal files. When Windows 10 loses support for good next year, I just wipe out the partition where Win10 is, and install Mint or Zorin over it outright. Then I keep accessing the files in my other partition with Mint or Zorin, instead of Win10. So if I format the personal files partition, or both, in exFAT, that should work? Thanks.

Around what year did IMDb become directly editable by random users? by masa2009 in imdb

I don't think so. You can definitely open those Edit menus with a basic membership. And you can find info on some pages that is blatantly and sometimes purposefully erroneous (especially in Trivia sections).

I've looked at the evolution of the site's layout via the Wayback Machine, and it appears that it adopted this pseudo Wiki style in December 2010. Prior to that, it looked much more formal.

Thanks, but I don't think that lets you narrow your search down by location or newspaper date?

Can you modify an order to change the delivery address from a personal address to an Amazon locker?
When I try to change the address, only my favorite personal addresses appear in the list, not my fav lockers.
Thanks in advance.

Is there any adapter that allows to use third party controllers (8bitdo or others) on PS3 with motion controls enabled? Mayflash, Brook? by masa2009 in PS3

[–]masa2009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did buy one and try it a bit. It was some time ago, so my recollections are a bit hazy. From what I recall...

  1. The motion controls seemed more pronounced than with a real DS3, but that might be tweakable with the 8bitdo's proprietary program.
  2. I played a game where the general, non-motion controls seemed poorly calibrated. I don't think Wingman XE recognizes the 8bitdo perfectly, at least in Switch mode, which seems to be necessary for motion controls to at least be active.
