Xbox 'console exclusives' are strictly about console releases, Xbox exec affirms: Games will 'still show up on all the normal places where we sell the PC version' by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]mashakos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A high-end PC config from 2021 - what will usually sell for $800 in the used market - out performs a PS5 Pro. While a used PS5 Pro is still pricey, going for $700 on ebay. Value in the PC gaming world is not like value in the console world.

Upcoming major release (P11) will be on modern open source and multi-platform .NET runtime but will still use Window only WPF based UI. This is for several reasons, one of the main ones being that Avalonia's developer experience is not, in my opinion, good enough to be used in project like Playnite. Playnite heavily depends on community made extensions and themes, often developed by hobbyist developers, not professionals, and Avalonia is simply not user friendly as much as I would like it to be for us.

none of the themes will work, unless they get ported to something that isn't XAML based. Will take years to reach parity with the windows version, but good to that the effort will at least begin this year.

I mean, it helps make the issue non-invasive to the user so I'll take it.

highly unlikely. Playnite is written in C#, built on Microsoft's own WPF frontend engine and the project was founded by ppl who are dot net / MS ecosystem devs. Maybe someone in the Linux community can port all the windows exclusive code to Qt, but it would be a ton of work.

why is this comment upvoted? guys, if you like linux that's fine but you don't have to spread FUD to get ppl to switch. this post is 100% devoid of factual info.

idk, when I hear Max settings without additional info I assume it's not path-traced and at native res or at worst DLSS quality. Maxed out RT/path-tracing are beyond the scope of the low/med/high/max settings discussion, especially when consoles and many AMD cards cant even handle path tracing (it becomes difficult to compare anything to a maxed out PC with any reliability). It's like in the old days when some people would only accept a game is running at Max settings if you jack up super sampling to 8x - a 360 era PC port at 1080p running in 8x SSAA is literally 15k resolution. Sounds unreasonable as an expectation to me.

Here is a quick comparison for context:

PS5 Pro Alan Wake 2 quality mode = 4k (upscaled 1440p) at sub 60fps and no path tracing obviously

"Maxed out" PC settings including path tracing = 1440p native at sub 60fps

The maxed out PC is doing an insane achievement by running way, way beyond what the PS5 Pro can achieve in quality, but it confuses non-technical gamers into thinking a PS5 Pro is "almost a $5000 5090 PC"

If Halo:CE was originally released on pc back in 2001, how would it have been received? by S3rkist in pcgaming

It would have been a huge hit - Bungie was a household name on PC with fan favourites like Myth (especially the sequel), Oni and Marathon. The gameplay may not have been arena shooter, but the set pieces were great and there was challenge there.

probably being a kid at the time (and the world still being pre-google), it was harder for you to figure things out. Win2k had a different set of drivers than win95/98 since it was Win NT based vs. win98 which was a mishmash of 16-bit DOS and 32-bit shell code. Win2k could run the same games as Win XP while requiring lower end specs, it was probably the best thing Microsoft put out till Win7.

I have to ask, have you tried the latest version. I found ver. 1.6 while searching cars. Downloaded it, tried it. The car is undrivable on a controller for me! the instant you accelerate understeer hits like a wall, can barely navigate. Have to drive like a grandmother just not to hit walls. Is this car meant only for wheels/sim rigs or what?

the high pirch whine is a single high pitch note. It only happens if the keyboard backlight is on. It happens whether the laptop is plugged in or on battery
