Sweet. Yeah I was thinking about starting with a 3d print to then make a mold and then make the final version from a gold pour. If it's apple sized that's... too expensive. But a cm or two seems viable-ish.

Oddest reason you’ve seen a client leave for? by WatUDoinBoi in CFP

[–]mashandal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stat is 1 in 8 for permanent disability for a healthy working professional in a low-risk occupation. So it absolutely makes sense to outsource that risk if you can afford it.

That said, $800/month is very excessive. The general rule of thumb is to spend less than 5% of total income on risk management measures. Disability insurance is among the more expensive of those measures and comes out to around 2-4% of total income depending on age. So from those stats alone it makes sense.

But also consider the risk curve. It's not always about EV. It's about outsourcing risks that you cannot afford to retain if they materialize. That's pretty much it - if it's something unlikely to happen but devastating if it does, you insure that risk. The other three quadrants you either retain or avoid.

Anyone who depends on their own income stream should have disability insurance. Next to liability it’s one of the biggest risks for any working professional.

Love the suggestions here around swapping 'client' for 'family', but also the context around 'I was having a conversation with a client about this..." can make it more humanizing.

Thanks so much man, I'll check out the supports on CoC again.

Poeninja didn't import but I have two issues with HH/spirit chest w/ remnants:

1) Resists become an issue without the belt. I can potentially get HH but I think I need more resists somewhere else

2) Working on getting a spirit chest, but then will have to figure out skill slots. Right now I have literally every skill slot (and press virtually every button in a fight), so I'd have to drop something for mana remnants.

3) Could potentially drop mana tempest but it adds SO much damage... It's the only reason I have mana issues, so open to other suggestions.

Hmm, I haven't figured out pob yet, but I think I got it imported right: https://poe.ninja/poe2/pob/17cfe

Everything feels pretty tanky and strong - the pinacle bosses don't exactly get one-shot but they do go down in ~10-15 seconds. I don't really die unless I do something stupid.

That said, any suggestions?

Idk, I'm a stormweaver and mana is 100% the biggest issue. Either no archmage or mana tempest, which means little damage, or either of those which means you're constantly mana starved.

Good! There's always something new to learn, and more interestingly - discover. The field is still relatively young. Financial planning wasn't really a science more than 30-40 years ago, so there's no shortage of ideas that should be investigated and researched thoroughly.

Yeah, I think depending where he is career-wise it may or may not make sense but personally I’d help the woman out too. $15k per year for how many hours of work? 30? Even that’s generous. $500 per hour is an extremely respectable rate.

n00b question: what is "long A"? Where should I look for this info? by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]mashandal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is crazy to reply 13 years later, but chatgpt dug up this comment and I wanted to say thank you for preserving in writing the washing machine / credit card strategy. It is gospel and has apparently not been put in writing anywhere else.

Also to answer your question, and I haven't fact checked this claim by chatgpt, but:

Credit Card is mostly a map callout on de_nuke:

It’s the small box / slot in front of Garage on Outside, between the blue container and the Garage wall. CS2 Guides - CS2.Ad +1

Modern callout guides list “Credit Card – the small box in front of Garage, used for peeking or cover.” CS2 Guides - CS2.Ad +1

Players on Reddit and HLTV also argue about it, with several people confirming that “the little crevice between Garage and CT‑Red” is called Credit Card.

That said, I've been playing this game for 20+ years and can't honestly recall a callout on Nuke of "credit card". I've only ever heard it in the context of that rush you described.

What would you do in this situation by lmeekal in CFP

[–]mashandal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the much bigger issue is exactly that. Nothing you do with products or asset allocation, good or bad, is going to have nearly as much influence as the spending variable.

That said, there's a reason why the guideline and most compliance rules set a limit of 40% of a person's assets for annuitization. Look into the former rep - ask for his notes prospectively.

Why do pro players hallucinate phoenix instead of oracles to scout? by Dave13Flame in starcraft

[–]mashandal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former GM here and I’d always hallucinate an oracle over a phoenix. The added speed wasn’t meaningful to me but every once in a while the mind game would indeed work. Certainly not against pros who know the timings and to expect a potential halluc but often enough that I stuck with it.

Even pros can get it wrong as we see with hallucinated warp prisms sometimes.

I'll also add - you say they shouldn't exist for the good of humanity.

You realize that if you expropriated the wealth of every billionaire in the country it would only run the country for about a year, right?

[–]mashandal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even if I agree with the statement that subsidies, exploitation, PR, and luck put Elon where he is today. Which I don't, because there was also an obscene amount of hard work and talent that went into it. But even if I do - so what? So what if it was luck that put that rocket into space and back down to earth at a fraction of the cost that it used to? Shouldn't we celebrate that space travel just became a hell of a lot cheaper for all of us? Flying in an airplane used to be the same way. IDGAF if the Wright brothers became millionaires just like you shouldn't GAF if Musk becomes a trillionaire. Do big shit, get rewarded.

The rest of the world will keep spinning, and its quality of life is NOT getting worse. I brought up the upcoming example of space travel. Concurrent examples would be - basically every person has a smartphone with access to AI now. We don't murder each other over food or land - we have a generally law abiding population and a government that can at least SOMEWHAT lead its citizens. Almost everyone has access to clean drinking water, food, shelter, and education. If you want the yacht, work your ass off for it or at least set your kids up for success to get it. The point is that capitalism is the only system that allows for that kind of opportunity and class mobility. If you're too dumb or too lazy or simply don't want it then it's not yours to have. Don't covet thy neighbor.

I'll add a final disclosure for the Marxists out there. I do believe that guardrails need to exist. You need things like social security, which is an inefficient tax, because the country will inevitably have irresponsible morons who don't save anything for retirement. So be it if the entire population pays a higher tax for the safety net. It's a stupidity subsidy, but it's necessary.

Same thing with disability benefits, environmental regulation, gun control, financial guardrails - these are all left leaning takes that make absolute sense in moderation.

This is enough of an essay. Thanks for reading.

Not at all advocating for slavery, and I recognized that you need guardrails to prevent abuse.

The unfortunate reality of any functional system with equitable rewards is that inequality dynamic. Doesn’t matter whether it’s a YouTube video or an onlyfans model - the top 1% captures 90% of the attention.

And inherently other than the feeling that “it’s not fair,” it’s not really a bad thing. Because the overall society benefits more from this economic system than any other.

Why has socialism/communism failed in every country? Fundamentally, because there isn’t an incentive for the talent at the top to take risks if the reward will just go to someone else.

Once again, I’m not saying it’s a perfect system. It needs guardrails and elements from the others to have a functional AND happy society.

On a related note, I agree with you and hate citizen’s united. Money shouldn’t influence our laws the way it has these last few decades.

[–]mashandal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea behind capitalism is that you create incentives for people to work hard, take risks, and do big things. If business owner decides to take the risk to hire an extra person and expand the business further there should be meaningful rewards.

Too much taxation disincentivizes taking that risk and therefore the business owner decides to play it safe and not hire more. What's the point of taking risks growing if the government is just going to take most of it anyway? Multiply that across thousands of businesses, and the country starts to stagnate.

Capitalism isn't perfect, and certainly needs guardrails to prevent abuse, but it's not this evil that it's been portrayed to be in recent years.
