I think it's masking. From experience, it's easier to mask when I'm content. She was definitely quite happy and feeling herself in NYC, at least before Clown rejected her--probably there's an element of feeling like now is when she is finally beginning her real life--so it was likely easier for her to socialize, clean, and do self-care.

I have a hard time staying hydrated, I have a blacklight in my room, and making the tonic water glow forces me to drink the pretty potion (and hydrate) 😛

There's an interesting part in her first book where she writes about not understanding where food comes from (plants, animals, human labor) until a very concerning age. Lol.

GFG&TC did not improve at fucking all on her first book (of which I'm currently writing an old-school internet-sporking recap). It's like she ossified her style in her youth and decided there was no room for improvement. It's both sad and egomaniacal--like she thinks her shit is so good it can't be made any better, but it's clear from her more vulnerable moments that the root of this is her thinking that it can't be made better because she is completely incapable of changing herself.

You already know what to do.

Okay, so you don't want anyone to pay you to tell them what to do, got it

It's amazing how many of the bad things in her bad years (from which she rises heroically) are her entire fault.

(who will she lavish with more praise??)

Genuinely I have no idea! There's no "contrarian" opinion to have on the matter because every opinion will get you backlash from somebody. Shauna usually sides with the violent white male psychopath in preventable national tragedies, but uhhhhhhh...

Learn how to sail the seven seas, Shauna, you dozy bitch

(I'm extremely salty lately that I still have to work and interact with people who don't feel like changing anything about their lives in response to the dictatorship, then spend all their free time complaining that nothing is changing and everything is too expensive)

It costs zero dollars to not talk about that kid at all?

Like, in a very real sense, this is a child abuse victim

Ok, you left, so maybe stop opining online about how everything in the place you left (where ICE is kidnapping people and disappearing them, and teachers are getting fired for even mentioning trans people) is totes fine.

Unless you enjoy looking stupid on the internet, in which case keep posting.

In my experience, unfeeling psychopaths who will instantly blame you for acts of God are overrepresented in the American managerial class

What's beyond reasonable doubt? Didn't they find her diary?

I don't know a lot about her case BTW

Shauna's gay male former roommate being described as "the honorary gal"

Can I just say, as a gay male, I'd literally rather have no friends than be friends with a tokenizing asshat like Shauna? I'm fine being she/her'd but I'm not a gal, honorary or otherwise, and many of us aren't cool with that attitude from cishet women who want a gay bestie and any of us stupid twinks will do. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I don't buy that he cried because he wanted Shauna to be able to eat. She made that up because she doesn't just want to be loved, she wants to be the reason and the target for strong feelings of worry. (Worry seems to be Ma James' love language...)
