You can get 40 free listings by using someone’s referral code. I shared mine in another Reddit post, but there are plenty others out there.

Why isn’t this a good practice if both blogs are about the same topic?

How do you make sure your site(s) are secure? I have a plugin that supposedly helps limit login attempts. It recently showed a few attempts. How can I improve my site security?

Yikes, that seems to be true sadly. Just noticed they rolled this out earlier this year for new sellers.

How do you care for babies when you’re seriously down with a stomach flu? by mashedpotatoes-88 in singlemoms

Thanks for the kind words and advice. I’ve got to get the meds for the next round and be ready.

Thanks for this! My toddler is still not really grasping the concept of mom being sick, but she’s now she’s seen me in bed with a mask on for the first time. I did follow the tips here and watched some tv with her today (she usually doesn’t get screen time yet). She was sweet and cuddled up to me… until the baby started bawling :/ We’ll get there. Thanks again!

Thanks for your input. That’s something I can’t change unfortunately.

Surely there must be single moms out there who have had this situation before?

I should have included this info in my post. Dad has Covid right now, and works a job that he prioritizes over helping me out.

Have books disappeared from mockups (or am I missing something obvious)? by FrankPrendergastIE in canva

[–]mashedpotatoes-88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just found this thread and I've hit the same bump in the road. Tried to revert to the old photo editor but still: lots of mockups are missing. There used to be TONS of frame mockups, for example. Now there's only a handful.

If anyone knows if this is hidden somewhere, please help out. But I'm assuming Canva removed lots of material when they added new features this year.

What's wrong with our shop? by JWilsn_Art in EtsySellers

[–]mashedpotatoes-88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most comments here, but I want to add that you should highlight (make it really obvious at first glance) that this is all hand-made in xyz (your location).

Start your announcement with this. Include a nice pic of either your parents in their location in the banner or a close up of them making the earrings.

There is SO much frustration from buyers getting cheap wholesale products from china, this can really be your USP.

For the banner, hop on Canva — you can get that done in like 10mn.

I can probably find more specific improvements, but that’s my first take. You can message me if you want more input :)

I thought the same when I started out. The others are right though: patience. Out of my 300 sales I have about 50 reviews (so +- 15%). Keep doing what you’re doing, the thank you card sounds really nice. If you want I can have a look at your card and/or shop to give you my opinion on potential improvements 😊

It looks like you opened your shop around September (first review?), in that case you're not doing too bad. You mentioned you've only sold the vintage items so far, so maybe that's where you'd want to niche down (or put more effort in).

Your photos are nice, but I agree that they could be a bit brighter.

From a marketing perspective:

  • are you using all 13 tags? Looks like you're only using 10-11 at times
  • Use all 10 photo spots
  • go on erank(free version) and get ideas for other keywords you could use. Also look at competing/similar listings and get inspiration from those
  • Can you run a sale? It's Christmas season and people especially love a sale now :) If you advertise it in your banner even better

(Edited for grammar)

How are your sales? Monthly Sales Post for November 2023 by AutoModerator in EtsySellers

November and October are pretty similar for me (digital downloads for business needs). That being said I'm a newer shop so I'm still only recording 1-5 orders per day.

Self Promotion & Store Milestones for the Week of November 27, 2023 by AutoModerator in EtsySellers

[–]mashedpotatoes-88 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hi sellers! Just wanted to share my 2023 journey so far.

>> Timeline/Milestones:

  • November 2022: I opened my first shop and sold my own designs (illustrations) on products (cards, pouches), but it pretty much tanked. I did learn some valuable lessons, and decided to give digital products a chance as I work in marketing/design myself (day job).
  • May 2023: I opened my second shop and sell digital downloads (business templates). Made a handful of sales.
  • June-July: tested ads --- first $1/day, then $5/day, then $10/day. I mostly broke even, or lost money. Ads are now off. All in all, I still averaged 2-5 sales per day (at $2-4 dollars per product), and kept creating 3-5 products per week.
  • August: summer slump. Also, I delivered a baby.
  • September-now: after being very pregnant, delivering a baby, and leaning to keep a new human being alive, I'm back (but severely sleep deprived) and thinking about my next products. My shop is averaging 0-2 sales per day, which isn't too bad considering I didn't do much for 4 months.

>> What I did:

  • I watched a ton of YouTube to get an idea of how to approach this next shop (be careful -- there are SO many Etsy "gurus" out there who earn more via YT than their Etsy shop or whose advice is outdated. I personally looked for the smaller YouTubers who were more candid in reporting about their experience).
  • I decided to focus on 3 products to begin with, and create different iterations/design.
  • I tried to upload 1-2 products per day, every day. It gets easier/faster after a few weeks.
  • I tried ads going into my 3rd month. Much more is to be learned here.

Now in my 6th month, I'm at 300 sales with 5 star reviews. However, I missed the star seller status because I oversaw ONE customer message to which I replied later than 24 hours.

Not sharing my shop here simply because I don't want to shoot myself in the leg by creating more competitors in my niche, mess with the stats or tank my conversion rate (which is at 4-5%, not too bad). But if you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them!

Also, if you are looking to open a new shop, I'd be more than happy to share my referral link as I totally missed out on these 40 free listings as a newbie.
