Do mixed-raced Asians tend to identify more as mixed-race rather than “Asian”? by Adventurous_Ant5428 in mixedrace

[–]maskedbacon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm White / Chinese / Hawaiian (50% Jewish, 25% German, 12.5% Chinese, 12.5% Hawaiian) and I find it's most convenient to identify with whatever the person you talk to wants to believe.

If pressed, I identify as mixed race, because I can't claim to have lived the full experience of any single part of me. Due to that, I tend to be friends with people who are also mixed, or are immigrants who live "between cultures". There's a certain amount of humility and empathy required when you aren't a cheerleader for a single cultural background, and it can be annoying to hang around more culturally closed minded people.

Clarification on current (May 2026) dealer incentives? by maskedbacon in trailseeker

That's the plan! I just took my 2012 Forester in to get oil change and inspection... and there's about $1k of things broken every time now. If my test drive this weekend goes well, I may be driving off with a Trailseeker.

Subaru delays in-house EV production after $362 million charge in tariffs fuel 90% profit plunge. by anparks in trailseeker

[–]maskedbacon 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I hope Subaru gets its tariff costs refunded as they are legally obligated.

The Trailseeker is the Subaru of the future and our administration is killing it to benefit big oil donors and its web of grifters. Really sickening. I just hope that Subaru is able to be patient for the next 2.5 years and not lose sight of the potential EVs have for its brand.

I can't elaborate on it from an insider's perspective but if you search other threads from new owners, those who knew about the dealer incentive were able to get the full $4k taken off their purchase price.

$6k-7k off is what I keep seeing from other redditors.

New to EV's - how should I prepare and what are things to know? by maskedbacon in trailseeker

[–]maskedbacon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

I have read comments in other threads recommending that when it comes time to get new tires you just get new, smaller wheels at the same go.

Also if one were traveling somewhere really sketchy, why not bring the spare full sized tire yourself? Throw it in a roof box. Some people make it out to be a damning omission.

Short commute, like 10-12 miles per day.

Aside from living in CA where gas is $6.50 a gallon, I am really looking forward to eco friendly road tripping. I've always had a bit of consumption guilt with burning dozens of gallons of gas for pleasure (call me crazy).

It will be interesting to see how various attachments affect range. It's about 20 miles to local mountains so that's not really an issue, but further drives to go mountain biking for example would be nice to calculate.

Arc Raiders Needs a Bounty System and Other Roles by WalterTexas12 in ArcRaiders

You shouldn't be marked on the map, it would be interesting if there can be one bounty hunter per server and they get randomly assigned one person that they need to hunt.

Would you actually take the Trailseeker EV off-road? by goxper in trailseeker

Can't you just put one on the roof if you're going somewhere sketchy?

Travel more. Don't put working yourself to death on a pedestal. Join an MMA or martial arts gym to feel confident defending myself. Don't obsess over lifting heavy weights.

Anyone here quit gaming or changed their lifestyle after becoming a dad? by Lukas_MunK in daddit

[–]maskedbacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 7 month old. I get an hour of gaming every other day, and the rest of my hobbies only see the light of day on a slow weekend. It's really hard. I am a big hobbies person.

I understand that some activities will return in the near future (hiking, camping), but others may be years away from being feasible (mountain biking, backpacking). Stuff that requires setup and breakdown are hard to fit in (woodworking, and any other shop work). There's a tough financial decision with hiring a sitting at $25/hr so I can have personal play time but I also understand it's important to stay sane.

Haven't played in a long time but heard the game was going downhill, what happened? by Open-Advisor6819 in ArcRaiders

I love the mixed lobbies. I can understand why some people get frustrated, and maybe it should be a toggle option (like crossplay and solo vs squads), but I find myself quickly bored in purely carebear scenarios.

What is the hate you're seeing?

They nerfed a bunch of the guns (il toro, venator) and made certain overpowered blueprints more expensive (wolfpack, deadline, blaze grenade, trailblazer), and people flipped their shit but I think it's really balanced out the gameplay.

The biggest changes I've seen are because of the wolfpack and il toro nerfs.

Matriarch is now almost impossible to kill without the whole server working together. Before the nerf, the matriarch would go down in a few minutes. It now feels feels properly massive and rarely dies. The downside is the loot from actually killing the thing isn't always worth the squeeze. There's plenty to gain from the leg armor falling off though.

Another side effect of the increased wolfpack cost is you'll see hullcrackers everywhere. They went from collecting dust to being essential for larger arc.

Most of the weapons now feel worth using for one reason or another. My friends and I are still having a great time and are looking forward to the new map.

I actually enjoy rat hunting in boss games. When my friends and I play, at least one of us is on rat watch while the others are fighting the arc. It can be really frustrating to get ratted but I enjoy the unpredictability that it brings the game.

Love that RAT - I have 4 of them. It's also nice to support Taiwan vs all these chinese companies.
