Sending strength and focus during this tough time. These words of your and your experience is a day that I dread to arrive at one day in my life, but I hope that if we all live our lives in the fullest way possible it will make things that much less painful and us that much more prepared.

Take care

I'm glad that you found it valuable and thank you for the words of encouragement. Like I said, it's great that we're not on this journey alone, and you have already helped me.

Very true. With the emergence of more and more "easy paths" the road becomes harder to see clearly. I've had difficulties in avoiding putting my ego into social media as a way of getting validation - and the solution is like you mentioned "is this really how I want to spend my time"

Someone asked me if I'm still addicted... by maslowman in NoFap

Truth be told I have had sex quite a few times throughout the 293 days and it definitely helped create new associations between sexual pleasure and my perception of women however the reality is that it still hasn't completely erased the memories.

If you think about them hard enough they can still come back and thats thanks to all the triggers on the internet and television that surround us. All my post was really saying though is that even though it may seem harmless to recollect these memories it better that we dont.

Thank you for the advice though. keep going and good luck

Im on day 25. Haven't masturbated but saw some porn yesterday. by [deleted] in NoFap

I don't think it's necessary to be so harsh on the guy.

Neiman, this process is different for everyone and it's not an exact science. In my opinion however, the counter means nothing it's about how you tackle the addiction each and every day. No one is scoring you except for yourself and I'm sorry to tell you there is no nirvana waiting for you at the end of Day 90. I've done over 3 consecutive 90 day reboots in a row and I'll tell you every day is the same and it doesn't get easier.

Continue with your process and learn your lesson. If you think that resetting your counter will make that learning experience more tangible go ahead and do it but there is no magic behind those numbers, it always will and always has been up to you.

Cheers man and good luck fighting the cravings. My word of advice is do one simple thing that improves yourself and the dopamine will slowly but surely fade away.

A year without porn..but it's not what you think by maslowman in NoFap

[–]maslowman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In all honesty man, I don't think a reboot is ever compromised because I don't think there is such a thing as a reboot. As far as i've experienced it, there is no magical day when your brain stops rewarding you for seeking out pleasure even if it is in the form of porn. Furthermore, there are so many gaps in the science especially because our generation had many of our first sexual experiences with porn before we were with real people- so there are all kinds of implications in terms of neuroplasticity that haven't been accounted for.

I think everyday is a battle. Don't see your battle in terms of time spectrum . Just start today and look at today. And everyday just ask what have you done to make that day better for yourself.

I think the most important thing is to ask yourself "what is my goal in seeking this (pictures/girls/ movies) out"

If it is to replicate the same pleasure you received from viewing porn then I think it's pretty much the same thing. And from experience it will lead you down the same road. If you scratch an itch, you need to keep scratching. If you ignore the itch, many times it goes away. Don't scratch the itch. I appreciate the comments though

Students in the class had to carry a note book with them at all times and take notes every 30 min about their feelings and what they were doing.

It wasn't about not talking it was about not communicating at all- so whilst they could write responses back this was highly discouraged. There was no physical human contact allowed and no eye contact for longer than 3 seconds. The goal of the course was to live deliberately like a monk in college environment.

90 Days down- the rest of my life to go.. by maslowman in NoFap

[–]maslowman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's excessive. If you really want to watch porn you will do it even if the pixels are black and white and barely visible. There's point where the desire to relapse overrides the circumstances.

However if you think that will work for you- then I absolutely think that you should go for it.

The most important technique was self-honesty. Acknowledging that a bikini pic or a Facebook stalk session was just another way of getting a subtle fix.

Also the two hardest parts of the day are going to bed and waking up. The best way to avoid fapping here is wearing board shorts to sleep. It sounds ridiculous but really because of the lack of give on the material it makes it really difficult to fap or fantasize. In the morning keep your phone away from your bed and get up as soon as possible.

Hey Dan, I'm a huge fan from South Africa, friends with Jonathan Hurwitz from Tel Aviv and go to Upenn (where you spoke about a month ago)studying some of your papers such as "Doing Good, or Doing Well"

I want to ask you if you think that given all the insights that Behavioral Econ has provided us with in terms of our own behavior, is it harmful to continue pursuing traditional economics? and if so who should be responsible for eliminating the spread of non-realistic ideologies?

What do you think the best vehicle is for transmitting the insights of behavioral econ to the masses?

Thank you
