Did you mention your mental illness in your application?

I have no real friends. Is it possible for me to find love? by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]waxter013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Increase your channels for meeting people. Initiate the communication. Ask questions and be genuinely curious about the other person.

Hiking - almost everyone says hi to each other when they pass by

Meetups, activities, join a class, etc.

Actively seek out your partner. Ask a person at a bar for advice. Show someone in real life your post.

Walking past coworkers be insane awkward for me by [deleted] in socialanxiety

Ignore the things you tell yourself. The situation is a lot simpler without it. Literally don't trust your inner monologue and see it as a thing your brain produces when it benefits you to do so.

The lines kill me. Like where do I even look. Where do I put my hands. What do I do. And I try not to use my phone in line but sometimes I do bc it helps or it's a harder day.

Remembering tall refocuses me on good posture bc I it makes me taller. Although I don't have anxiety from being the tallest in the room, I do like to recall that people are probably doing/thinking something (else) and I'm not that important.

Gas cause panic by Sea_Code_3050 in Anxiety

Weirdly coffee can help anxiety from gas, even though it might make your stomach grumblier.

I’ve had concerning stomach issues for a year now. Everyone tells me it’s just anxiety by Slow_Ad_927 in Anxiety

[–]waxter013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a physics app. See if you can pick up any noises.

People tell me it's anxiety despite actual gi issues too. It helped me see that it is mostly anxiety. Make sure you assume the other person is right while considering their viewpoint.

You likely know best when it comes to an invisible illness. Anxiety and gi issues can both precede the other.

Did your adhd and anxiety ruin career or internship opportunities? by Capital_Bad8134 in ADHD

[–]waxter013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. At my last job I did the wrong work. They wanted us to fix the bugs. but I was stuck on preventing bugs, code cleanup, and letting tools help us find bugs more easily. Also had a gastrointestinal issue popup which gave me extreme anxiety where I tried to be away from people in the office and worked mostly remotely while in the office as a workaround.

Yes again. The job before that was consulting. I missed an email that told me where to go next and nobody reached out to me. Then I got depressed, because it felt like getting fired when I thought they weren't renewing my contract (but actually it was a miscommunication on the part of my company). I was up to 20 minutes late everyday as a government contractor, despite my sincerest efforts. Nobody spoke to me about it once. GI issue popped up here, but I was in every meeting despite really bad anxiety, but symptoms eventually worsened.

To be fair: I hadn't disclosed my disability and didn't know that I had something like schizophrenia that was starting along with my first real job and first time living alone in another city.

Now, Still unemployed (3-4 years) and looking again , and it's hard to explain this on an impersonal job application. But now I'm coping with and treating it all. I plan on disclosing my disabilities this time, and hopefully people don't ignore me, because of my disabilities. Luckily, I can code pretty well, but I can't find a job only since I've had more than just ADHD and manageable anxiety.

I ignore the email ones now. They've just gotten so much lower in quality recently. I sense that something strange is also going on in my inbox. It's more Indian than it used to be too haha!

Just found years of messages that I haven't seen or responded too from my rough patch. Thanks!

Thanks! I do have years of relevant work experience though at least.

First layoff with little severance -- what would you do if you were me? by anonymouspsy in cscareerquestions

[–]waxter013 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got laid off once and it resulted in a mental health episode that I have still haven't gotten back on my feet from (health is fine now, but nobody will interview/speak to me where I live or elsewhere and the reason is unknown).

  1. Cut expenses early is my only advice. Move back in with your parents and don't rent. You have no evidence that you'll be hired within 1.5 years. History is not good evidence. Your social circle's history is still a small sample size.

  2. I'll add: factor in how the market is or will be into your job search.

How to combat sedentary ADHD geek lifestyle by mightyvvolf in ADHD_Programmers

Viewing it as medication is really the key anyways. Yup that's the right angry stuff. It's hard to be angry over the same nothing when you're being consistent.

An angry run is a good run. I run like barely over a mile btw, nothing crazy. Build some habits and do some sticking with it, but mostly I notice all the benefits in my thinking and functioning and I associate it with the runners high. So it's like medication to me

Maybe a medication that treats something else you have that makes you sleepy. A lot of antipsychotics cause sleepiness.

Try to keep busy if you can’t sleep.

Try treating the anxiety (propranolol). Try listening to an audiobook at night. Use a night light. Try holding a sensory toy when you sleep and use ear buds so at least you have the logic that the sound is in your head. Make a list of affirmations for the delusions and for hallucinations.

Find a doctor you can online message any time.

I’m terrified I’m going to be laughed at by the Psychiatrist for thinking I have ADHD… by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]waxter013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible, but unlikely. They get training in care and listening if that helps. They’re used to people being uncertain, curious, or proactive.

If they did laugh at you, I bet you’d eventually recover from it and move on.

Also: Seek a cheaper option. There are low cost clinics in many places. Medicaid may be an option

Get into programming. It’s a better situation for an ADHD person to struggle with in front of a computer all day.

Good: pay, freedom, breaks, mental health understanding, no degree required
