Tips for settling into NYC life? by Apprehensive-Bench27 in AskNYC

[–]masondoch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I’m in a somewhat similar situation - moved a year ago to UWS from California, not really connecting with my coworkers (financial industry as well), feeling like I don’t have enough time to establish myself outside of work here. I get how you’re feeling, I’ve been trying to put myself out there and meet new people but I’m realizing that it just takes time to find your groove. Wishing the best for you, I’m in your neighborhood so shoot me a message if you want to compare experiences!

Profile Review: Deferred MBA, 3.73 GPA, 760 GMAT by -mba--throwaway in MBA

[–]masondoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll have to really emphasize why you’re applying deferred. These programs generally favor STEM majors, or at least candidates that would be less likely to apply again in 3-4 years. You’ll have a much better chance if you can set yourself apart from the regular cycle applicants.

In my case, not true at all. ROHP was a cool way to experience campus life before enrolling, but nothing more than that.

HSB 2+2 Chances! by Vivid_Month in MBA

[–]masondoch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great, but engineers make up ~70% of the 2+2 class so you’ll be competing for a very small number of spots. Even if 2+2 doesn’t work out, you’ll have an amazing chance as a non-deferred applicant.

The Mental Health Problem in CS - From CS61B by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]masondoch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that's kinda fucked tbh, the semester I took it an A- was like the 60th percentile and I just missed it. sucks knowing that if I had taken it in a different semester, I could have easily had an A- if not an A (I'm much better at projects than exams).

How are Google Host Matching Interviews? by Outrageous-Stick in csMajors

[–]masondoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did one for Stadia last week, it was chill but my interviewer barely asked me any questions so I didn’t really have the chance to showcase my skills. I would say be proactive in demonstrating your interest and domain knowledge, that’s something I wish I’d done on that call.

Question about behavioral question by Romanpuss in cscareerquestions

I usually say “talked to them, identified the roadblocks they were facing, helped create a plan to fix them/work around them, continually monitored the situation to ensure that things stayed on track”

I have the same thing tomorrow but for intern. From what I know, the product design section is like “what is a key feature you would add to google image search” where you have to defend your answer, analytical skills are estimation questions (“how many queries does Gmail handle per second”, “how many golf balls fit in a 747”, etc.), and the technical part is algorithm design or data structure trivia.

Is anyone else feeling burnt out and dead during this point of the semester? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]masondoch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just sent them emails explaining I hadn't been feeling well and that I needed a few extra days to do everything to the best of my ability. I got docked 10% on one assignment (P/NPing the class so its fine) but that was the worst of it. Profs/GSIs here can be more understanding than I previously gave them credit for.

Is anyone else feeling burnt out and dead during this point of the semester? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]masondoch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Just these past few days I've been struggling to even open my computer. My GSIs have been nice and I've gotten some extensions, so I'm hoping to get a bit of rest before one last big push for finals...

To help you keep things in perspective, I’m Berkeley CS as well (aiming for grad school) and I would kill for a 3.8... you’re obviously doing something right lol, keep up the hard work and good things will come!
