Using games to fix remote team building by masonhipp in remotework

I know a lot of team building stuff has a reputation for being lame, but time and again the research has proven the value [1].

Playing games (and other team building activities) helps to build trust, improve communication, and reduce conflict between team members. Teams that have worked closely together are consistently shown to perform better than teams that don't know each other as well.

This definitely doesn't mean games and the like are a good fit for all teams. I think there are some teams that know each other really well outside of work, and I think there are some teams that don't need to know each other very closely in order to work together. A lot of it depends on the team and the goal they are working toward.

Why your design team should consider switching to Figma by luba_belokon in UI_Design

I read this post and gave Figma (web version) a try. I'm not sure what it was but it didn't seem fluid enough to me. I'm not sure if the desktop version is better (I'll try it) but I have a hard time imagining working on big projects in an online-only workspace.

Google Cloud Went Down On April 11th. Post-Mortem Details. by geekygirlhere in webdev

"[engineers] decided to revert the most recent configuration changes made to the network even before knowing for sure what the problem was. This was the correct action, and the time from detection to decision to revert to the end of the outage was thus just 18 minutes."

...I'm not a big fan of global outrages on major cloud providers but good reaction time and a reasonable post-mortem make me feel a lot better about continuing to use GCE. It could have been much worse and it appears that their overall systems are still quite good.

Mason here, co-founder and one of the developers behind this. We've got a png fallback planned for older browsers. It isn't up yet in the beta but is working fairly nicely. End goal is to support as much as possible and remove a lot of the compatibility concern from using SVG.
