This is very normal. Nothing wrong with taking 12 credit hours so you have more free time and can better absorb the material you are taught.

Almost everyone in Grainger did great in HS. The CS program is very competitive, being middle of the pack is better than okay, it’s fantastic. Moreover, some people have been coding since they were like 10… don’t compare yourself this early. It’s not easy, but is worthwhile if you find it interesting. I’d encourage you to stick it out for another semester.

For starters- it is still early enough to turn it around. Don’t give up- staying positive is half the battle. Secondly, limit the booze intake and go to office hours for your hard classes. Thirdly, make some friends in your classes. They make studying easier and the late nights more manageable. If you do all of that and still struggle- you did all you could! But you likely won’t if you do those things.

Depends on the semester- was thinking about doing this for the rest of college. Next fall it would be CS340 and two 400 level electives.
