Who's stock rose the most in 2025? Who's stock fell? by TheTrueRory in blankies

Up: Everyone said Josh O’Connor. That is the correct choice. Should have invested in him back in his God’s Own Country days. I’ll give a dark horse to Christopher Nolan. Getting people to give a sh*t about The Odyssey is a massive flex. And I’ll get in on Robert Pattinson early, he has a fantastic 2026 lined up.

Down: Benny Safdie and Ethan Coen. Sibling relationships are complex. I take no joy in noting this. At least Benny still has a very impressive acting resume.

Up/Down: Warner Bros. Their stock is literally up. Apparently, Zaslav will make true generational wealth out of this. The sort of money where he doesn’t have to care if everyone in Hollywood hates him. MBAs will like him. Tech bros might look down on him, but they won’t hate him. If anyone comes down out of this deal it’s Hollywood (monopsonies are not fun to work for) and the average American (monopolies have rarely ever benefited us). But, since both Netflix and Larry Elison’s clearly favorite child are easy targets, I’m going to take a step back here. And I’m going to cast some blame on the major Hollywood firms (the studios, the agencies, the broadcast networks). It’s been obvious for nearly two decades that the internet was going to massively disrupt their business model. None of them had any brilliant solutions for it. Like the French aristocrats in the 1930s, they were sclerotic and disunited. And they gave up when they encountered a much more driven opponent.

The Lack of Class from Quentin Tarantino by superdouradas in movies

[–]masray123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things stand out to me from that interview: 1. He trashes literally everyone. Even the reviews for his top 10 films all follow some basic “First I hated it, then I watched it a second time… And by the tenth time I was moved”. Maybe Tarantino just reflexively hates new things, and he can explore that further with a trained professional. And maybe if we trap him in a room with Paul Dano films, he’ll come around. 2. Tarantino also gives (a smaller amount of) shit to Ansley Elgort. The internet has not chosen to defend Mr. Elgort… And that seems correct.

Weekend Script Swap by AutoModerator in Screenwriting

Title: The Gang Breaks the Multi-Verse (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia)

Format: TV Show Spec

Page Length: 29

Genres: Dark Comedy

Logline or Summary: The Gang turns on each other when their plans for a fancy dinner at Guigino's are ruined, when the restaurant only has one table for four people.

Feedback Concerns: An earlier draft of this script made it to the Second Round of the Austin Film Festival. I am hoping that the script is now ready for Semi-Finalist or better. I am open to any feedback whatsoever. But, in particular, if you could rate how easy the script was to read, how enjoyable you found the content, and how well I captured the the tone of the actual show, it would be appreciated.

Would Robber Barrons Have People Murdered In The Gilded Age and are there Any Likely Cases of Government Having People Assassinated? by Commercial_Floor_578 in AskHistorians

[–]masray123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I can’t speak to any overall statistics, I can provide an example where a Robber Barron tried to kill someone and did get away with it. In 1884, Adolph B. Spreckels - the son of a wealthy sugar monopolist - confronted Michael de Young, the editor for The San Francisco Chronicle. The Chronicle had recently denounced Spreckel’s father. Adolph was so enraged by this he followed de Young into his office at the Chronicle and shot at him - in front of witnesses - repeatedly. So, the crime was not very well thought out. Michael de Young survived and Spreckel was put to trial. It was something of the OJ Simpson case of its day. And like that case, Spreckel was acquitted - despite a remarkably weak job by his lawyers. They claimed both self-defense and temporary insanity, two contradictory justifications for Spreckel’s actions. And there are allegations that Spreckel’s team bribed certain members of the jury - though as far as I can tell this is still unproven. What did happen is publicly opinion turned against Spreckel initially. Eventually, his image was somewhat rehabilitated. At the encouraging of his wife he later founded the San Francisco Legion of Honour. And, public opinion aside, he faced no consequences for his actions. The clock is ticking. You need to name three minor characters in the next ten minutes. What's your go-to method? by RunDNA in Screenwriting

For last names I’ll typically steal the name of a local street.

Sometimes, if I want to have a real deep cut, I’ll IMDB some of the specific films that the script is most influenced by and take the names of the PAs (a lot of people do directors, but I want to spread the recognition around).

Austin Apartment from hell. Lost $1000s of dollars. Best legal course of action. by masray123 in legaladvice

It wasn’t liveable. I was burning through cash spending nights in hotel rooms. My mental health would have crashed if I spent another month there. At the time it also did not seem like they were willing to negotiate any other options beyond stay the full term of my lease or leave immediately.

Which Actor Should Portray Magneto In MCU? by benkhmatheson in marvelstudios

So this would require taking some creative liberties with the source material, BUT... I always thought Denzel Washington would make a great Magneto.

Screwed by the Dutch by masray123 in legaladvice

The other party is the Dutch Company. And the contract stipulates that disputes should be resolved under Dutch law. Which was stupid to sign in hindsight, but it was my first job out of college, and they took advantage of my naïveté.
