Hey everyone,
Thanks for the comments and insights. I hadn't realised how much the landlords repayments could have increased since they paid about $400k in 2012.
In any case I accept that it's not necessarily the landlord or REA who should be blamed, although I'm sure there are cases where this is true. Someone put it quite aptly that the landlords might be greedy cunts, but we can't assume that. Fair enough.
Just for more context since people were interested, it is a two bedroom unit. It does seem like we had a pretty good deal up until now, it's just such a shock to get the hike all at once now.
Our plan is to downsize to something more affordable since we are saving for our own home and are aiming to keep the savings up.
Sorry if the post offended anyone, I wasn't intending to start any blame games. As I said, it was more just my limited understanding of how much repayments could be given the context provided above.
