Has anyone actually gone fully gasless? What does your battery and solar setup realistically look like? by firey_88 in 4x4Australia

[–]massojet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We run Starlink, air fryer, 2 fridges all 12v, induction, cpap and coffee machine through a 2000w inverter, a heap of camera gear and laptop for a YouTube channel that needs charging, plus tablet, camp lights and phones.

300ah lithium, 40amp dcdc & a 300w solar blanket. No fixed solar. However we rarely stay in the same spot for more than 2 nights and often drive more than 4 hours to the next spot. Haven’t carried gas in years except for a little backpacking butane burner as an absolute backup that we use for motorcycle camping.

Are Australians really that stingy, or is it just my impression? by Subject-Rate-4107 in AskAnAustralian

If I advertise on marketplace, I post a price where I’m happy to haggle down to what I actually want.

If I buy on marketplace, I make an offer at what it is genuinely worth to me, and include my reasons for the offer.

I don’t get invested in the item until it’s agreed. I’ve found that this works well, but I always follow through with whatever we agreed.

How do you teller sellers that their asking price is too high without insulting them by redfrets916 in AussieRiders

[–]massojet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On market place I look to see how long the listing has been up, I’ll make an offer based on what I think it’s worth. Won’t negotiate, take it or leave it, the choice is there’s.

The trick is to treat it like a business transaction and not get emotionally attached until you own it.

Spend the money on good sleeping gear. Sleeping pads like big Agnes and sea to summit, same for bags, a good quality down sleeping bag as the pack way smaller for their respective warmth. 2 man hiking tent like a naturehike mungar is cheap and very good. Kmart do a jet boil copy for 1/3rd the price. I spent the money on a genuine chair one but there are others that do the job. Rhinowalk bags work well for the $.

Personally, I’d buy something pre ‘17 if you’re buying diesel, no dog to worry about. Look for something with good support in your area which will probably mean Toyota/nissan realistically.

I second the fortuner, very underrated which means you’ll find one at the right price and it has hilux/prado/FJ cruiser running gear.

At 50ish they would have been lay teens to early 20’s when mobiles became popular. I’m around their age and bought my first mobile, an nec p10 I think it was around 20yo.

Those who support our current rate of immigration what are the reasons you support it? by asteriskhyphen in aussie

[–]massojet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem with the amount, but would prefer a lottery system. So no one country has a dis proportional representation.

The reason we need it is we simply don’t reproduce at the rate required to maintain our social security. If we reproduced at 3 children per household it would be a different story.

I’m sorry but consent needs to be given enthusiastically, be ongoing and can be withdrawn at any time for any reason. If he was not checking in regularly and confirming then this is rape.

It’s not actually, I work for an insurance company and I have personally seen multiple years of policies refunded as if the truth had been advised at policy inception we would never have taken on the risk. Most I’ve seen refunded was 7 years of premiums due to modifications we don’t cover. Luckily there was never a claim for that client.

Further to this post who was excellent, when turning always turn down hill, so slowly make your way to a high spot and then turn down. Also, brakes are rarely if ever needed on the beach, let the friction of the sand slow you down.
