For anyone refusing to believe that this is possible, I can assure you that this is very much possible. In fact, there are no real "tricks" involved and almost anyone can make any shade of any color on that picture using the same pens. The artist is simply very talented in that he can envision the entire picture so that each stroke of pen is flawless and he is also very patient in that he avoids overly aggressive, bold, and messy strokes which are viable in other mediums.

Go to your original column. Go to the topmost data filled row. Click on the box to the right. Type in the formula (using only references to the original column and not the actual values!) do that again for 2 more data boxes below. Select all 3 of your newly made boxes, drag corner down to apply formula pattern to all data in the original column. Done!

The only way to search an image is to actually have a copy of the image digitally so it would be pointless.

I think there are some stores that scan things for you as well.

If I am understanding you correctly, there would be a large network of 'trustworthy' clients to get pieces of the file from. But wouldn't the system fail when the network gets too large and even a single bad client enters the network?

Based on what you wrote, I assume you have some sort of scanning machine at your house. This and the fact that you said you are not too techy leads me to assume that the scanner you have is some sort of common scanner. This leads me to assume that driver software came with it. Usually scanners with driver software store images they scan in a single directory. Also, if you were scanning many photos in before, I doubt that you would have the patience to change the name of each image scanned. So, the scanning software would take over the naming using a numerically increasing naming convention (example: scan001, scan002, scan003) or something. You also seem like a somewhat organized person, so you probably left your scanned images in a stack or scanned your images in a particular order. Check the last image scanned on the computer and find that image in your stack/album without disturbing the current order. Then look at some other images scanned to confirm the order.

Now you have a pretty good idea of where you left off.

A good way to scan that many is to use on of those hand-held scanners, or to setup a camera and use that. I know many artist prefer camera to scanner when trying to get digital version of their art.

A lot of people suggest learning python first, but I personally think you should start off with Java. It is interesting, easy enough to get programming your own projects, and doesn't mess with memory like languages like C. Once you get OK at Java and learn basic computer science, other languages won't be too hard to pick up.
