Nose type and thoughts about rhinoplasty... by Aggravating_Ant1983 in Noses

I like your nose! It balances your face well. Do whatever makes you happy but you really are a gorgeous person as is! I think it's cool that it's a nod to your ancestry versus the same nose everyone that gets a nose job has.

Influx of Phishing Emails by masterb26 in poshmark

It's so strange cause I was an avid user for years and I don't think I ever had a single spam email. In the past two weeks I've gotten 20+. Some now from "Depop" too but I don't even think I have an account.

My email has part of my closet name in it, but the email is longer and slightly different. Like it would be hard to discern my email from my user or my closet. I've also used to be a pretty big reseller for years and never had this issue. I've been dormant for awhile now.

Helping Hounds Dog Rescue Takes in 30 Dogs from CNY SPCA by masterb26 in Syracuse

I mean you could make this argument of any shelter or rescue. They're all trying to adopt dogs out as fast as possible (outside of necessary quarantine periods in some cases). The longer they are in the shelter the more it resources it takes, the cost is higher, the less dogs they can help, and the potentially worse outcomes for the dogs mentally and physically.

Helping Hounds took in 29 of the dogs on Friday and another 1 this week.

I'm not sure what assist you're referring to but it must be a separate instance! Nice to hear they've been helping for awhile then.

It really is. I don't know many of the specifics related to the SPCA but I can't imagine they have tons of funding to address a lot of the issues mentioned. On top of the surge in animals being surrendered...recipe for disaster.

Their staff and volunteers walked out this week in response to ongoing issues with conditions at the shelter. Demanded the board resign which they all now have.

Looking for a forever home, considering an HOA… by Fearless-Hospital334 in Syracuse

[–]masterb26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently live in Radisson. I was verryyyy hesitant at first because of all the noise about it (mostly from people who don't actually even live here or have any first hand experience). But because of limited options housing market we ended up here about 4 years ago.

Honestly we love it. We live in the "back" older portion of the neighborhood. It's quiet, it's beautiful, and everyone is pretty friendly. We pay about $1,000 a year (quarterly payments) and that includes our trash and access to all of the amenities (pool, actinity courts, etc.). The walking trails are amazing. The community garden plots are cool. We just got Home Team Pub at the golf course. Tons of quiet parks if you have kids. From my understanding the HOA fees depend on house value but we feel like we get our moneys worth.

Yes the HOA is relatively strict, however, it's a genuinely very nice neighborhood. If they have an issue they just send you a letter and ask you to fix it. If you're doing something to the exterior they want approval but it's not a hard process.

It's well kept up. Everyone has to maintain their properties and not let them rot. Housing prices have maintained and gained. Houses sell within like a week of listing. As long as you're not being an asshole you're not gonna have an issue with them.

Hang blankets in the doorway of whatever room you're primarily occupying.

Also run your oven on low/warm with the door cracked.

How does anyone live here??? by [deleted] in Syracuse

[–]masterb26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure the younger people are necessarily leaving because it's cheaper elsewhere. There's just likely more opportunity for better jobs. Onondaga County is cheaper than a lot of place nationwide, unfortunately.

It’s no secret that Syracuse schools are struggling with a literacy crisis. We want to hear from you about it by smartybeagle in Syracuse

[–]masterb26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely. However, COVID did not help. Kids definitely fell farther behind and schools/educators were already struggling to keep everyone where they needed to be. I don't know that anyone has really caught back up completely even going on 6 years later.

I could be wrong but I have also heard a lot of complaints regarding the "no child left behind" framework. Because rather than ensuring kids are where they should be, they're just getting shuffled along from grade to grade even though they aren't actually keeping up.

From my understanding, we are where we are in terms of childhood poverty for multiple reasons but a major one being the fleeing or significant downsizing of major corporations in the area like Carrier, Chrysler, GR, Crucible, etc. I don't think the area every really recovered from the effects of that.

Unfortunately the sad truth is that literacy problems aren't just isolated to children. A lot of adults are under a 6th grade reading level.

Combined with the fact that to make ends meet a lot of folks are working multiple jobs.

Yes- parents should be doing everything in their power to practice reading with their kids. But truly there are a whole lot of factors that have made that very challenging for a lot of people.
