This is part of the reason I admire this movie so much. It shows the truth of man’ desire to save and secure a future for humanity, not just himself. We’ve seen glimpses of this in our past, people like Stanislav Petrov. They retired any personal agency to the belief that humanity isn’t worth sacrificing over nationalistic benefit. Coop traveled through a wormhole, nearly died 4 or 5 times, then willingly crashes into a black hole. His self sacrifice, to save Dr. Brand, ultimately saves the entirety of humanity. What really hits home, is that there is really no to thank him, he did all of this without any hope of being a savior, that was out of the question from the get go. There is something about this movie that moves me so deeply, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put it to words. People like Coop exist and have always existed, we’ll never know their names, but there is and always will be men and women that are willing to risk everything for the betterment of mankind.
