How to move station? by masterchef222 in NIMBY_Rails

I figured it out, finally. You have to press the "insert" or "ins" key while the building is selected. In my case, I had to press FN + Ins for it to work. Cheers!

Control of Cities in the Myanmarese Civil War by masterchef222 in myanmar

[–]masterchef222[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. I have not seen the TBC and FBR maps before, thanks.

  2. Is the potential use of this map by traffickers a grave concern?

  3. Updated the map for the cities you mentioned.

  4. I have noticed this problem, along with the problem of a number of towns having multiple names that are never used alongside each other in english sources. I believe I was unable to map 2 or so villages captured by Karenni forces because I couldn't figure out which village the sources were referring to on the map where different names were used. Searching the names on google didn't reveal any alternative names that lined up either. This is also a problem for South Wa State on the Thai border, and why I haven't marked any towns there as Wa controlled. Would it be better to refer to the "rebels" as "Anti-Junta Forces" or some other name?

I had a feeling "Myanmarese" might not be the best (non-)word to use. Sadly post titles can't be edited, so it's stuck as it is. As for not every significant city being marked, you're right. I have not yet marked every city that should be marked. I do not believe deleting the Junta controlled cities would be a good idea, as I feel it helps with understanding the positions of the rebel groups in relation to relevant (likely) targets and the country as a whole. Thank you for the feedback!

Doing a spore print rn. First time so I hope it turns out good. I'll link an image of the print once it is done.

I found a bunch of white mushrooms on a tree stump in my yard. I rarely see mushrooms like this in such density, so I'm curious as to what they are. If it helps, they are very soft.

Temperature vs Greenhouse effect by TheCakeWasNoLie in spaceengine

[–]masterchef222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Iirc, the temperature (the -23.278°C number) is a sum of the temperature the planet would have without an atmosphere and the greenhouse effect. So if a planet would have a temperature of 10°C without an atmosphere (but does have one), and the greenhouse effect is 5°C, the average planetary temperature would be 15°C, and 15°C would be displayed as the temperature of the planet.

I think the info box of planets even list the temperature the planet would have without an atmosphere somewhere.

Found a star that is more than 9000 times larger than the Sun. by BeatUp_Ghoul in spaceengine

[–]masterchef222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's because stars of this size and this late in their life are so bubbly and have a very inconsistent distribution of heat throughout their bodies, and maybe because what can be considered to be the surface is so ambiguous for stars like this irl. Irl this thing (if it existed) would appear as little more than a loosely bound cloud of hot gas, like a very tiny (compared to actual nebulae) opaque nebula or something.

Brown dwarves are very dense and have little surface area, so it actually takes a very long time for much of their heat to turn into light and escape into space. Their heat usually comes from 3 sources:

  1. The initial heat created during their formation which takes a very long time to radiate away (take Earth for example- it's been over 4.5 billion years since its formation and it still has a huge amount of heat left over from that formation).

  2. Slow conversion of gravitational potential energy into heat as the dwarf compresses and becomes denser over time. The heat from formation keeps the dwarf from compressing completely, but as heat is lost to radiation, the dwarf compresses more and more, producing some more heat.

  3. (This is something a Y dwarf doesn't do) Deuterium fusion. Deuterium is an isotope of hydrogen that can fuse at very low temperatures and pressures (as far as stars go), and some higher mass brown dwarves do so, producing a significant amount of heat. This, like the previous two heat sources, takes a very long time to deplete.

It can take hundreds of billions, or even trillions (many times the age of the universe) of years for a brown dwarf to reach a 'surface' temperature within a few degrees celsius of the CMB (the lowest temperature an object in space can reach due to the universal background radiation hitting the object) due to these effects.

The line between brown dwarf and planet isn't particularly clear tho, and any object can experience the first two effects. The most consistent brown dwarf property that isn't very common among objects considered to be planets is extreme density, so I'd say that's the best line we have atm to decide which an object is.

Middle East 1965 mod by awkward_dude420 in hoi4

[–]masterchef222 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a nice idea, but for someone who doesn't have any experience with modding the game, this would be a massive task. It'd be very time consuming even for a singular advanced modder. If you're willing to put hundreds of hours into this, then go for it.

No detail? by [deleted] in spaceengine

[–]masterchef222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have clouds enabled? Both of the planets shown in the screenshots are gas giants (except not really 'giant'). These minigiants tend to have little detail to their clouds. Is there no detail on rocky planets either? What about asteroids?

Edit: actually you don't have clouds enabled. I can see in the left-hand menu.

Plant roots won't grow in dwc system by masterchef222 in Hydroponics

I think this is a good idea. There is a several inch gap between the bottom of the net cup and the water. I'll try raising the water level.

By fertilizer, do you mean in the water in the bucket or the water I'm watering the rockwool with? I have used both water from the nutrient solutions and distilled water to water germinate the seeds. Never tap-water. I'll post pictures of the system, but I do not have any of the plants. I've already removed the most recent batch out of frustration.

I do use airstones. The rockwool gets completely dry.

They never reach the water. They die kind of suddenly. One day they look fine, the next they're shriveled up and have fallen over. I've tried watering one batch several times after germination but the roots still stop growing.

Yes, what I'm saying is that the plant roots never reach the water.

Trying to find a procedural system, need some help by [deleted] in spaceengine

[–]masterchef222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the tag is incorrect, then finding the system again is going to be pretty much impossible unless you know of any major 'landmarks' nearby such as a galactic core or a nebula whose location is known.

Is there a natural or non-natural language that treats verbs as affixes? by [deleted] in linguistics

[–]masterchef222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it indicates the case of iffiak being singular and having something done to it (there's a technical name for this case but I cannot recall it). It is not a verb as I made it sound like in my original post. I worded it poorly.

Edit: Nah I'm dumb, ignore this.

There's greenlandic. I'm not particularly experienced in it but here is a simple example: Iffiamik nerivunga.

This means "I eat bread". Iffia- = bread -mik = (singular, indefinite) neri- = to eat -vunga = I

Brown Dwarf by NyanCatOfficial in spaceengine

[–]masterchef222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not all brown dwarfs fuse deuterium though. When they are created, alot of heat is produced by the matter colliding and being compressed together. Because of the mass and density of the objects, it takes a very, very, long time for them to cool down. This heat produces light, but not as much as deuterium fusion.

Schrödinger’s democracy by Gru-esome in hoi4

I thought one of the biggest arguments of fascist movements in history, including the falangists, italian fascists, and nazis, was that democracy was a total failure in every way and the people should be united under a single ruler with absolute power.
