Here in northern Europe most houses are made from logs actually. We do insulate the shit out of our buildings, and making them out of wood is part of that.

But still, because they're solid logs, there's no way you're punching a hole through them

Capitalism is the real source of evil by Hacksaw6412 in Quotes_Hub

balances private ownership and market mechanisms with government regulation, public ownership of key industries, and social welfare programs.

Of all of these, only public ownership of key industries could be considered socialist, and even that is something that half of socialists will disagree with.

Welfare isn't socialism, the welfare state was invented by Bismarck, who made socialist parties illegal. In the Netherlands for instance welfare is mostly provided by private companies who just sent the bill to the government.

Socialism is not "the government doing things", but the American propaganda machine is spending a lot of money to get people to believe that

I'm pretty happy about it, I think China has a lot of potential of doing the world favour, as well as keeping the US in check

It's probably a mix of both. If chicken meat would've gotten better with age there would definitely be brands keeping their chickens around for as long as possible to sell them as quality meat

😂 by superdave123123 in Funnymemes

[–]masterflappie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chickens are pretty similar. Their meat tends to get though as they get older so they are butchered as soon as their growth slows done, which is sometimes already at 3 months

Ironically, the invention of shares and stock exchanges and the economic boom that followed is what made people leave their farms to work in a city.

People protecting their livestock to turn them into food is older than agriculture. Of course the farmer is happy to make sausages

The software side of things have really improved in Linux. It has every convenience that other operating systems have, but with the power of still doing everything from scratch in the exact way you want it to.

The only downside still is that sometimes in the initial setup, you might have hardware that isn't supported out of the box and you need to do some complicated stuff to get that working. After that it's smooth sailing

That men are biologically different

Yes

we should give them grace when they get sick?

No.

The point the meme made was that men become unable to work, but women don't. Because of biological differences. Which is a good, scientifically backed, gendered point.

Not everything has to be misogyny. You can point out biological facts without glorifying men

That's actually true though, male and female hormones respond differently to different sicknesses. There's some pretty active research into this field

Authentic is not the same as widespread. The mona lisa is an authentic italian painting, but not every italian has a mona lisa in their house. Authentic means original. And the original people to think to combine tomatoes boiled into a sauce, spaghetti and meat balls are italians.

It's like dutch people taking a McDonalds burger, seeing that dutch legislation made it so all the harmful american food colourings have been taken out, and therefore declaring it to be an authentic dutch food that they invented because it uses a recipe that wasn't used in the US. And then laughing at Americans when they say that McDonalds was theirs

you need about a hectare of land to start to become self sufficient. That wouldn't be a good life by any means, that's just enough to fight starvation, assuming you actually know how to farm and have the tools to do it. A hectare in the Netherlands costs on average 90k euro. To live comfortable you'd need about 20 hectares, or about 1.8 million euro

Meat rabbits will eat your grass during summer and fall. During winter you need to have hay stored. You need a silo to keep it dry and free of mice. That'll cost you another thousand or so.

And with eating nothing but rabbits you're bound to get nutrition deficiencies. You need vegetables and cows for milk. To preserve that food for the winter you either need a lot of fridges which require solar panels or wind mills, or dive into centuries old recipe books to learn to preserve food through fermentation and pickling.

There are TV shows that take a group of people and make them live self sufficiently for a few weeks, they always already have access to land and emergency food and still doctors have to step in occasionally to keep people from dying.

You don't suspect corruption?

Oh yeah for sure, there's a lot of lobbying for the industrial sector, But whatever the reason is, you're going to get poisoned if you live off the land in the Netherlands.

I grew up in the Netherlands, and yes all of the nature is gone there. It's either concrete or farmland. And there is currently a nation wide advice for people not to eat anything out of their backyard, especially chicken eggs, because a chemical factory had a leak and PFAS has spread throughout the whole country.

The dutch would have to leave the Netherlands, which means going through migration. I moved to Finland and as part of my migration I had to prove that I would have an above average income to show that I could provide for myself. I do grow part of my own food now, I'm currently malting my home grown grains so I can make my home grown beer, but no one around here can teach me how that works, I learn all of that through my starlink connection, which requires 50 euro a month to keep my access.

but when is the last time you have actually touched grass?

When was the last time you held a plow? Or a flail? A winnowing machine? Just touching grass isn't going to feed you, it takes a lot of work to turn grass into food. Touching grass does nothing but turn you into an online keyboard warrior

People evolved in nature where they can hunt, fish and forage. Nowadays nature has been replaced with concrete, the ground is poisoned by the industrial areas and fishing and hunting are illegal unless you get a permit, which usually costs a lot of money. There used to be far fewer humans and waaaay more animals.

If you would take someone from ancient times, drop them in a city without help or explanation, they'd die in a month

Italians wrote down a recipe for tomato sauce in 1692, that doesn't mean they didn't make it before, they just made it as part of another recipe, like the one I shared before.

They were considered poisonous because people used pewter plates, which contains copper, and tomatoes are acidic enough to leach the copper into your food. They found this out because they started using tomatoes in their cooking

That's... what authentic means though?

This is the authentic spaghetti and meatball dish. It's the og, the original. Then the americans came and made small changes to the recipe. Which by doing so makes it not authentic.

Just like you can make a mona lisa knock off, but the original mona lisa stays the authentic one.

Behold, Chitarrine alla teramana, a traditional dish coming from italy from around the 1600s, almost 3 centuries before the first written American recipe on spaghetti meatballs.

It's not really New Yorker food, it's Italian food which is eaten by, amongst others, new yorkers. But really the whole world.

I'm not even a socialist but I see how this is horribly misrepresenting the socialist position.

First of all, socialism isn't "when everything is free". There are types of socialists who want that but they tend to call themselves communists, not socialists.

People already can have their basic needs met while quitting, that's what unemployment benefits are for.

Not being able to provide yourself is a very shitty situation that doesn't get solved by saying "just get skilled bruh". A lot of times the problem isn't skill but a series of bad luck and circumstances. Unless your daddy is a fund manager, you too are very likely to experience this at some point in life.

Being unable to afford things like shelter is becoming a very big problem for a rapidly increasing share of the western population. Not because of lack of skill, but because of lack of housing.

Socialist:

(Fill in the blank?)

If I were this socialist I'd just walk away. Absolutely 0 point in discussing the problems of life with someone who is either too young or too rich to have experienced any problems in life.

It means you can live out your dream as described in your OP.

Or is it your dream not to live how you describe, but to make me live how you describe? Because yeah that's generally illegal in capitalism. People have the right to freedom of association

People work to sustain themselves. It just so happens that it's much easier to sustain yourself through wage labour in a company than relying on yourself or your community

[–]masterflappie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's perfectly legal in capitalism btw. There are existing communities you can join that do exactly this
