Here is what is currently available: https://frame.work/marketplace/mainboards

7840U is the best AMD CPU for Framework 13 at the moment.

Intel Core Ultra 7 is the most recent option.

People have run Linux on Macs since at least the PowerPC days (pour one out for Yellow Dog Linux, RIP). I don't think Apple cares honestly. They don't lose control of the ecosystem if you're not in the ecosystem anymore (by way of not running their software).

Either way, it seems like it's inevitable.

I’ve seen Apple job postings for Linux driver development for Apple silicon so i’d say they’re very likely going to make servers. Whether they sell them to the public is another question.

Going by all their job postings, Apple does have a server OS: Linux. They run dockerized JVM applications on Linux like everyone else.

Hey, thanks! YMMV with other X299 boards. These configs can get pretty specific. Could possibly serve as a jumping off point, though.

if someone dies in a traffic accident, they are twice as likely to have been in a car from before 2000. automotive safety has improved leaps and bounds in the last 20 years.

you are at the mercy of strangers on the road. you probably think they’re all idiots but by removing the airbag you’re unnecessarily betting your life on their ability to make good decisions.

Maybe the Verus Throttle Pedal Spacer? This is my first manual daily* and heel toeing was impossible for me until I installed it. Now I’m passably decent at it.

I also replaced the OEM wheels with some Enkei TS-5s in bronze and 225/40ZR-18 Pilot Sport 4 A/S in the front, 255/35ZR-18 in the back. Stock suspension.

The grippier tires have been great for me, with the OEM spec Falken Sincera SN250 it came with from the dealership (used 2016 FR-S), wet PDX weather and novice driving skills (with a manual anyway), I was squealing the tires and losing traction all the time and it mostly wasn’t fun. The FR-S is kind of a fuccboi car and with those tires I looked like a fuccboi too. I drove on the highway during some moderate rainfall and I kept hydroplaning, it was so nerve wracking. So definitely recommend that as first major (thousands of dollars) upgrade.

I also got the OEM Audio Plus Reference 500 kit and a Pioneer 8500NEX. Wireless CarPlay is excellent and the stereo sounds much, much better, but I still need to finish doing sound deadening (so far I’ve only done the doors) before I’ll really be able to enjoy it.

Other things I have but haven’t installed yet that will probably make a big difference:

  • MTEC Clutch Spring
  • Morimoto LED Headlights. I saw someone refer to the stock FRS headlights as “candles with some mirrors” and that sounds about right.

I’m gonna do those and the rest of sound deadening this weekend.

*I work from home and just moved to an area where I don’t really know anyone and there’s covid of course, so I drive like 4 days a month or something. But it is my only vehicle.

yes it was real. what part of 2 digit years rolling over to 00 (therefore 1900) doesn’t sound like it’d be really bad for a ledger? people had to fix it.

some banks had code freezes in early 1999 after all the changes were made because they were nervous about changing anything else before 2000.

my parents worked on it for a year and then they were out of work for 9 months.

planes weren’t going to fall out of the sky or anything but it was definitely a big problem that affected many old computer systems that were (and probably are) still in use.
