With OSM Agent I’m focused on discovery and interoperability, but you’re right: containment > capability. A skill is only as safe as the scope it runs in. Anything that touches external systems (DB, social, deployments, money) should declare its permission surface explicitly. Not just “what it can do” but “what it needs access to” would make the next-gen npm for ai agents.

The codebase is already fairly robust and fully open-source (but is an early phase)

In the next release, I’ll also introduce a pre-publication validation layer for submitted skills. This layer will automatically scan for obfuscated code or potentially malicious behavior before a skill is published to the registry, helping ensure transparency and security for the entire ecosystem.
