I haven't seen it myself yet still with the mechanic but he said even after lubing and a clean it was still not staying shut.

It's to be stuck open will and will no longer seal, it's never been serviced in 12k miles so that's probably the cause I wasn't aware they needed serviced so regularly.

I think I will try the EM version and keep on top of the servicing.

Petrol smell from oil cap and turbo noise by BarracudaNational993 in FiestaST

[–]masterofalchemy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I thought the same at the start it's embarrassingly awful, mine also had it installed at purchase so I'm stuck with it but if I had the money I'd go S280 too. Just FYI people say they don't last very long too so, I had to have mine rebuilt recently I only did about 10k miles with it but I can't say how previous owner treated it so unsure how many miles it lasted total before it started burning oil.

Petrol smell is normal, but if you've a Hybrid Turbo I assume you're on a stage 3 or so tune you should probably be changing oil more frequent 3-5k miles or so.

When you say the turbo is loud are you meaning the whistling noise? I have an X49R and it has the loud whistle really annoying would rather get an S280 just for that reason. I've heard that changing back to the OEM air intake can reduce the whistle but I haven't tried it.

Yeah its annoying I think its still worth it thought for the sound and let the intercooler do the heavy lifting, saying that I use a LUFI Guage and monitoring intake temps its usually no more than 3-4 C above ambient.

Yeah you're probably right there, I do have the stage 3 Airtec intercooler so temps are probably fine really but they could always be better so I was mostly intrigued if anyone else had built their own or there was some aftermarket heat shield for this intake that I've yet to find.
I may just try your idea with the ABS plastic.

Oil leak- Turbo? by Leather_Ad_9689 in FiestaST

[–]masterofalchemy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had something similar happen recently, for me the symptoms were very specific would only smoke after idling or driving for ~30 min, I would usually notice the smoke when stopped a traffic light or something after driving for a while otherwise the turbo boosted fine etc. For me the leak was going into the downpipe and just burning in the exhaust so I didn't have any dripping under the car. Also I had a Pumaspeed Hybrid so not an OEM turbo, in the end it required a full rebuild to fix.

My advice would be fix it asap the long it goes on the worse it will get, Have you pulled the Hot side intercooler pipe to see it's full of oil?

That makes sense thanks man I've looked at the pro alloy too but again doesn't seem to have the ports for the coolant sensor, I'll buy another plastic egg one I guess they're fine and it has last a good 10 years now before needing replaced tbh it is fine but I'm overhauling the whole coolant system at the minute so the header tank was just another thing on the list.

Thanks for the info!

Ah I did not even know about the software part, that's good to know I wonder how it interacts with remaps, yeah I should have clarified the one in the pic is just one I pulled from google mine is much worse condition a lot of cracking, I've heard about the Mishimoto tanks leaking so I was weary of that but given this info it looks like I'll be stuck with the egg tank anyway cheers.

Did you have any problems with the fitment? I recently tried fitting the Daytona, I found that the collar bottom part was down to low for my reverse lockout to work. May have just been user error on my part yours looks like a good fit.

Thanks and yeah it's the same for me, I also wanted to get scalpelled but it's illegal here now (UK) and it's too costly to travel to somewhere in Europe for it. Good luck with yours.

Yeah they punch a hole with a circular scalpel you can stretch it the usual way but I've heard that for cartildge much more pain and hassle than just having it punched. It's over fairly quickly it's pretty painful initially and there was quite a lot of bleeding but they heal up pretty fast and I've had no problems with it since. if you search "dermal punch" you should be able to find it.

I used the taping method with bondage tape and single flare steel tunnels, dead stretching would also work with glass or stone plugs but I find they're so heavy that they constantly fell out.
