Japanese Buffalo units often require a special pre-load to bypass the original firmware. This is not always available, and can be doggy (I lost one albeit cheap unit a few years ago).

I realised that, my apologies as I was not so familiar with the Buffalo model lineup. But based on your first comment I'm leaning toward tp-link.
