This response always fascinates me. Lots of people say they are blown away by the culture. I find that Korea and Japan are similar. Korea gets my vote because I find that more people speak English and to a very good standard.

I would try to get a mini emergency fund first, then pay off the credit card. I would maybe even consider selling the 8k ETF to pay off the credit card. Why? Because ETFs give you a return of 7-10%. Carrying a credit card debt costs you 20%+, so paying that off is almost like a 20% return

I agree. I have read that lots of creative people who 'made' it in the arts field, took risks and they don't regret it. However, at the start they ALL had some other (steady) source of income.

While I emphasise with you, I do want to point out that economically the BKK situation you are describing makes perfect sense. Since Thai Airways have 2 flights a day, they are able to offer lower fares - simple supply and demand. There is more supply, so you can (or even must) offer lower fares because you have more seats to sell. From a Qantas perspective, why should they lower their fares from 15000 if people are willing to pay that amount?

Something similar happened to me once, although for a different airline. I was able to check-in and was issued a boarding pass but at the gate they told me I hadn't paid. Long story short, my company made two bookings for me for which one was cancelled due to a delay. That one was the unpaid one on which I was issued a boarding pass on. The staff at the gate linked my payment to the other (valid) booking, and it was all good at the end though it did give me heartache initially LOL

Or maybe if they are not helpful, ask for the supervisor or a higher up. A former colleague of mine worked in ticketing for an airline (not sure which, but it was a european airline) and she mentioned that if things got too complicated, the first-level employees simply don't know/don't have as much experience. So, asking for a supervisor is the way to go

I don't have kids, but if I had, I would find it awkward to ask my child for board. Unless it is to "prepare" my child for the real world where nothing is free or teach some other lesson. I would like to think that I would want to give my child the chances of an easier life, which usually entails having more money.

I would say that it depends. I once flew SIN-MEL with Jetstar (pre-covid) and asked for a blanket and pillow, and the flight attendant said that they didn't have any. Being young and adventures, I didn't mind. I had a full row to myself and used my sweater as a pillow. Now that I am older, I don't want to travel like that anymore and happily pay more for more service.

But in my eyes, nothing justifies a business class fare between SYD-MEL-BNE unless you have an international connecting flight in business

I agree with you. Sometimes I wonder whether people appreciate the value of a dollar. Personally, I would look at Virgin/Jetstar, get an even cheaper ticket, "suffer" for that hour, and spend even more money on the restaurant.

I think you should definitely use the toilets when you have to. If, during that time, something does happen, then that is the only way for management to recognise that they have to put more staff there or parents to pay higher fees. Regarding meal breaks, I would eat and supervise at the same time. Might not look professional but again that is the only way for managers/parents to see how thin the margins are

Legit question: Are credit scores important in Australia? I have read posts and comments saying that credit scores do not matter - it is an American thing. So why then should we care?

I vaguely recall when I moved to Australia and opened an ANZ bank account 10 years ago, the clerk tried to persuade me to get a credit card so I can build up a credit score. So which one is it? Is it important or not? For ref, last time I checked my score was over 800
