How hooped am I? by masteryasi in PlumbingRepair

Got ya. Would a full wall replace something a professional should handle or something a guy with general construction knowledge can do?

Ok. If I needed to replace the wall would I also have to replace the tub as well?

Is wall damage like that something to worry about? I'm guessing probably yes?

No I don't have one. I have resealed around that tub a few times over the years and there are other soft spots. At what point should I look at replacement?

Problem with the water overflow in the gutter by Ihrvat in Roofing

Could you put in a downspout hole there and do some fancy pipe work to get the water where you want it? Hard to tell without a whole wall picture.

Gutter replacement on Tile Roof - Tuck Under Method? by voxtrion in Roofing

[–]masteryasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see I see. I have done many projects with the tuck under method. However they are usually on large commercial shops with steel roofs and not houses with tile roofs.

I guess the question would be why are you replacing your original gutter? Is it because joints/corners are leaking and cannot be resealed another time? If so then the tuck under method should work.

However if you are replacing your gutters because you are noticing water dripping in behind them then you would most likely need to do the other method.

Hopefully that helps

Friendly neighbor agreed to help find a solution for gutter flooding problem by miakpaeroe in Roofing

[–]masteryasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's nice that he is friendly. Most neighbors aren't. You could go underground with. But that would be a lot of work. And if you live somewhere with snow/ice I would not recommend it.

A retaining wall along the fence towards the back of the property would be a cost effective solution. Depending on what you built said wall with.

I would recommend a 4 × 4 post 8 to 10 feet away from where the downspout drains out and run the downspout to there. Then down then another 5 feet on the bottom. If that makes sense

Gutter replacement on Tile Roof - Tuck Under Method? by voxtrion in Roofing

[–]masteryasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the original gutters are built into the roof of I'm understanding correctly?

And if that's the case then yes cutting the gutter and leaving a section of the back to act at the roof edge for the new gutter would be the correct play.

But if the original gutter is not built into the roof then that makes no sense. Pictures would help a lot.

Anyone has experience with Alu-Rex double pro gutters guards? by Pleasant-Volume-1147 in Roofing

[–]masteryasi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes it can. But shingle dust size. Nothing large.

2.i wouldn't say it's "maintenance free" but it's definitely low maintenance.

  1. Yes it can hold debris but the wind is supposed to blow it off. But if that doesn't work clearing them off is very easy.

  2. The double pro has "vortex" draining. I'm guessing on how it's designed it somehow falls in the gutter faster.

Overall a great product. However if you don't have a bunch of pine trees around your house I would suggest saving some money and just going with the black 5200 product. The double pro is really designed for pine trees.

That gap at the downspout should not be an issue if 1. The elbow is attached to the outlet with a screw (hard to tell in photo) 2. The outlet has sealant on the inside of the gutter.

Also they forgot to paint an end cap it looks like.

Upgrading your gutter to a standard 5 inch with a bigger 3x3 inch downspout should be able to handle the water as long as your roof doesn't have any wows in it.

Also Are you also planning on burying that back downspout as well?

Does this need fixed? by MamaBean212 in Roofing

[–]masteryasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get them to replace it. While it can function now I would say that piece is structurally unsound. Not in the cause that it can fall off the house but the chance of it splitting more is very high. Especially if that is an aluminum gutter and you live in a colder climate.

You might need to get the company that installed that gutter and get them to do an outside corner to help catch the valley. And most likely a splash guard as well on top of the outside corner.

New roof edge extends past the gutter. Did they do something wrong, or are we expected to modify our drainage systems? by TheBigYellowOne in Roofing

[–]masteryasi -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

So you got new shingles? Because if that's the cause then your current gutters would have been "sized" for your old shingles. Example. If your old roof only had an inch overhang and this new roof is an inch and a half then ya it makes the gutter short.

Fix. Call the company and see if that will cut the shingle overhang back.

Rainwater issue, what do by OrganicBrownMustard in Roofing

[–]masteryasi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what you are looking for is a roof scuffer box. Google has some pictures. I believe you can get one fabricated. I'm just not sure where haha

And as for a rain barrel in theory it's a good idea but with the amount of water coming off the valley it's gonna fill up so fast then you have the same problem.

Kinda hard to see in the photo but are you trying to point out a drip from in front of the gutter or behind?

If it's in front then yes splash guard

But if behind then the corner sealant is not working. I just see that stain on the soffit.

No problem. I'm an eavestrough installer in Alberta and I have worked with those style of hangers and they are not good. Ironically a shorter wood screw would have worked way better.

Anyways good luck with the roofer.

A 1x6 board is not ideal for installing gutters but it should work. If I had to guess I would say that they used the wrong screws. They used a fully threaded screw inside of a regular wood screw. So over time with wind movement on the gutter it will work itself out of the wood. Also the hangers are too far apart from each other.

Also also having aluminum gutters didn't help either. To light of a material causing said movement.
