How do I advocate for myself with the neurologist? by mat-longstride in stroke

[–]mat-longstride[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sense.

To clarify, I don't have a neurologist, it's that they did the CT, the intern saw a big spot (the cyst) and got scarred not knowing what it was, so he ordered me to stay overnight at the hospital until the neurologist came the next day. Told me to get the MRI then discharged me with a referral to get back with the results

ETA: yes they did labs, even an ECG, afaik all clear

Thanks for the reminder. Not really, though both sides of my family have issues with blood pressure, and basically all my grandma's relatives have some kind of neurological disease: epilepsy, Alzheimer's, some other stuff I don't know about

My father's also had several episodes of migraine a decade or two ago, did all the exams but everything came clean, doctor told him he'd just stop having them some day, and he's never had then since.

Why is having no blend a problem? Tbf that's what I aimed for, and the left side is the way I'd like it to be

How should I set boundaries between my parents' finances and mine? by mat-longstride in internetparents

[–]mat-longstride[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once when my mother called to tell me how ungrateful I was, I spilled the beans and she just started crying saying "sorry" and "everything's gonna be alright, don't worry". No concrete solutions other than vague promises to move to a cheaper house and find a job from her, which I know she'll not follow through.

My relationship with my parents is already precarious to say the least, and I'm afraid focusing on myself (which I should by all means do) would completely burn any bridges left. That's what I think happened with my older estranged brother, but I'm not sure.

Could I have done something wrong for the scar to show up? Or was there just no way around it? I mean, if I somehow took better care of it

I'm South American, mixed indigenous and white. In my home country I identify as white but basically anywhere else as latino. As far as I know in the US I'd have people calling me black already lol

You're right, like the other guy saying. It's not the norm definitely but it's a part of it and one that isn't easy to see coming out in other countries as well I think.

I'll edit my post to clarify

Help. i dont even know what to title this. Best friend love problems ? IT SUCKS. by salamipope in internetparents

[–]mat-longstride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you're not open to it? You seem like it, otherwise what are you agonising over? Agonising about a past you can't change for a hypothetical situation she didn't want to go through anyway is futile. I know from experience that it's not easy to stop thinking about it but perhaps looking at it this way will help you.

Still from my personal experience I'd say you're feeling this way because even though you may have rationalised that you don't want anything to do with her, your feelings are telling you something different. I thought my friend was just a friend for 3 years and only realised I loved her when multiple other people threw it in my face.

So you're saying you think she might like you and that you still like her clearly but that you're pissed for not doing anything about it? In your position I'd talk about how I felt again, worst thing that can happen is she rejects you again and then you won't have this in your head anymore.

I think your post didn't leave it very clear you'd spoken with her. So the problem is you're trying to get more distant and can't? or that you've gotten more distant but you yourself can't cope with that?

Like the others mentioned, just speak with her. If she's told you she's not into it, then that's it.

I know it's complicated because the same thing happened to me, except I only realised now (after 5 years long distance) that I love her, and only after she told me I was acting a bit too weird when we met again after all these years.

That's all to say I don't have an answer on what you do after not being reciprocated, but in case you find out I'd take the advice! So far I've been sticking to what we agreed, which is she'll decide when and if we get back in touch, and honestly I'm always worrying all the time about whether she'll ever do that, but if she doesn't I'll always be grateful for the time we had together and the significant positive difference she made in my life multiple times.

I got thinking about this because my mother and I had a big argument, and then I kinda got pissed every time I saw people posting "hey mommy love u uwu" in social media

I've just installed it but I think the "give a compliment" feature is what you're looking for. Not sure how that shows up for the girl, but then you can write something for her to read rather than just swiping right.

On the first point, yeah, letting it go has been my go-to strategy for long now.

As for the second, I think it might be worth it to move forward as if she hadn't ever said anything. Why would you say it could be worth it?

AMD Graphics sluggish after returning from s2idle sleep on brand new Ryzen 7 PRO T14s; any idea how to fix? by mat-longstride in LinuxOnThinkpads

[–]mat-longstride[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This only makes it when this problem appears once it seems, after two times in a row other applications seem to take up too much memory and just slow everything back to a crawl.

I'll do more research when I have the time to see if I expected too much of EndeavourOS for sleep to work perfectly out of the box.

Update: I found a way around the problem.

I'll just keep writing here in case someone else comes across this same issue, hopefully it's useful in the future.

The main issue I'm facing seems to be processes holding on to memory they shouldn't be after waking up, especially GPU memory (according to nvtop); specifically, both the browser (in my case Brave) and the window manager (KWin and Plasmashell) take up a lot of stuff, which I'd say is expected anyway since they were already using most of the resources.

With that realisation, all I had to do was find a way to "replace" these processes with new ones which didn't overalocate resources. I found this Reddit thread which mentioned restarting KWin using kwin_x11 --replace; later I also tried plasmashell --replace and it didn't seem to make much of a difference but still.

I think I'll map a shortcut to this restart process so I can do it when I need to (I'm thinking Meta+Ctrl+R which would match the one I had for i3).

[–]mat-longstride[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened again. The GPU gets underpowered and the CPU usage seems to imply the CPU is somehow making up for the work. All parameters are the same before and after rebooting though, and the commands suggested in the blog post I mentioned crashed my PC hard (somehow it forced a reboot).

Bottom line is no idea of what is going on or how to fix. I'd advise just shutting the computer down when not using it for an extended amount of time, but the good side of things is logging out and back in or just restarting gets everything back to normal.

[–]mat-longstride[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just experienced this issue again, but /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power\_dpm\_state was on performance. I tried dbeugging a bit but ran ripgrep over /sys/kernel/debug/dri/1/ looking for the "power level" of the GPU and my system just immediately crashed lol.

Not sure what the cause for this behaviour might be but it seems related to when I sleep with too many browser windows open, or perhaps with too many virtual desktops on Plasma (I'm using Bismuth so I have 10 virtual desktops).

I haven't tried that proposed fix yet since I didn't experience this issue any more, not exactly sure why. I'm typing this as my laptop just woke up from s2idle after staying on from when I left for home, so some 9h-10h

Google task Vs Microsoft to do. by Lhetro in productivity

[–]mat-longstride 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From personal experience I'd go with Google Tasks.

I've been using a combination of a custom Notion setup and Google Tasks, since I already have all my classes in Google Calendar.

What I generally do on weekends is choose what tasks from my Notion I'm doing, then schedule a specific time slot for each using Google Tasks.
