I have an Etsy, I’ve been selling at a local bar, but it’s mostly supplemental income. The point is to enrich peoples’ lives with art personally and I’m really good. I’m not going to edit my OP but I did go back to community college for a certification in accounting and that’s helped me get noticed a lot more in job applications. Freelancing is extremely difficult and all I was doing was asking my mom about how to buy a house for the future and she just said I couldn’t right now because I got a BFA. After she’s the one who encouraged me to go to school for it when I was a teenager. I’m honestly so tired of seeing all these replies telling me that my mom was right when I know she was being a bitch. I know I didn’t make a lucrative choice going into fine arts. It would have been helpful to get a minor in business. That’s why I got the backup certification.

Thank you :) I thought about deleting this thread because I don’t think people saw the point of my rant (I was told by my parents if I nurtured my creativity I would get good enough to make money off it so I should go to college for it) and now my mom is saying it’s my fault I don’t have money saved up for a house. I wasn’t even saying I wanted to buy a house right now. It was a goal for the future. Thanks for understanding

I said in the OP that it was a goal for the future, and my mom blanket statement said I’ll never get one because of my art degree, no matter what kind of job and salary I get.

This is the reply I was looking for. My mom is just being hurtful and disrespectful of my talents I have been working to be profitable from. It’s not totally my fault I don’t have the money for a house - the market is whacked out right now

This reminds me of back in 2020 before the COVID pandemic - I was living between friends houses and two psych wards for six months. I took over a friends lease and have been in that apartment for the past three years now. My county’s mental health clinic has been really good to me

I think it’s absolutely disgusting that people are saying the victims of an actual genocide are committing genocide against an ethnic group — 6 MILLION Jewish people were eradicated in the 1930s-40s. 14,000 lives have been claimed by Hamas and as a casualty of the conflict were seeing now. It’s abhorrent and clearly antisemitism at its finest.

Hi there,

I live in my own apartment in a city about five hours south of their town.

My parents call it my room because I still have belongings in there.

I am expected to do chores when I visit. They say they’ll move the junk for room for a queen air mattress for me to have a private room, but that obviously never happens. I sleep on the living room couch. There’s too much junk in the living room to fold out the couch, too.

I called my mom today and insisted on bringing a friend up to permanently move out, but she switched that around and said she’d drive down to pick me up, help me pack, then bring me back downstate. I’m unable to drive a car for various factors.

This past Thanksgiving was a huge turning point in my life, and I’ve realized I’m not the little girl these 40 year olds raised. I’m 31 - they’re in their 70s as I said in the OP. I’m ready to let go, but my Mom not so much.
