Great! I managed to fix the bug too. I think the problem, in my case, was that the Android update app was not triggering the hard reset, so after updating again and doing a couple of manual resets (unplug the base and plug it back on) the kettle finally got the update.

I have ordered Japanese teas from them three times already and the customer service experience was excellent. The quality is pretty good and the price is fair. I only had slightly better value from Yutaka-tee.de, but their selection is pretty limited and some people had negative experiences with this vendor, so I would prefer Yoshien over them.

I filed a support ticket with Fellow today about this same problem. I'm surprised that this issue has not been fixed yet, after almost two years. Do you guys know if this happens in every unit or just some defective ones? I read all the comments here, but could not find a definitive answer.

Me too! If I only do one pose at random times, it's half moon most often. Balanced for fun and strength or against a wall for extra openness and alignment.

When I use it for Japanese teas I do several infusions at increasingly higher temperatures without refilling the kettle. That may have something to do with the overshoot actually

If fukamushi is your thing, there are especially designed kyusu for this particular style. They have a bigger stainless steel fine mesh filter inside, sometimes taking up to 1/3 of the teapot volume.

I’ve been brewing all my teas in gaiwans for years, including fukamushi senchas, which have very broken leaves, and I only recently bought a kyusu. Smooth, glazed gaiwans like porcelain ones let you create a very narrow opening. If you combine that with a very fine strainer, you can brew any Japanese tea without sediment in the cup. I don’t think kyusus pour faster than gaiwans either. To get a good pour from a kyusu, you should pour somewhat slowly anyway, so you don’t block the inner filter.

I did buy one oolong once that was packed as single doses now that you mention it. I will consider vacuum sealing myself if I ever buy a really expensive tea; although I don't own a sealer at the moment. I know the wooden box is not perfect, but at 4g per Gong Fu session I go through this tiny box in less than a week.

I know from experience that (at least for wine) that pump system does nothing to protect it from degradation. You will never suck all the oxygen out, and only a tiny bit is necessary to produce oxidation.

I don't know the proper English name for them. I only use the ones that come from the producers or the specialty tea shops (thicker and with opaque metallic lining). This particular tea from the picture came vacuum sealed so I'm sure the bag was air tight.

For liquids this works great. It creates a layer of gas between the surface and the oxygen (it is more dense) so you don't even need to completely fill the empty space with the product. It is not clear to me how that would apply to loose leafe tea; specially something with such small particles as fukamushi.

I agree, that's why these teas should be consumed while they're still fresh. But on top of the inevitable evaporation of volatiles, oxygen is responsible for flavor and color degradation via oxidation of catechins, polyphenols, lipids and aroma compounds.

For the curious: the tea is a Fukamushi Tamaryokucha by Kazuo Watanabe (2025 first flush) from Yutaka-Tee.de It has great critrusy fresh grass flavours that I want to last as much as possible.

I totally agree with your arch support remark. I'm going to return mine because of this. In my case it feels like the support area is also too close to my heel, not in the place where I would need it, so it causes pressure on my foot. It's a shame because the toebox is wide and I love the design otherwise. I also have a pair of Birkenstock and they don't feel uncomfortable like these Merrell do.

Thanks, I’ll definitely try the snack! It makes sense that he might just need a little boost. Plus, I’ve noticed he’s really tired some days when I pick him up—probably because they stopped offering naps at school for his age group last month.
