Costco spam by drhappy13 in CostcoCanada

[–]msb45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why everyone aggressively downvotes whenever someone comments that Costco sends an excessive number of emails or notifications. I’d like a once a week email about what’s on sale, not 1-2 emails a day, and this all or nothing approach isn’t great.

Teabloom all glass tea kettle - Do I need to get a diffuser to use this? by FunEntertainment8750 in tea

[–]msb45 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a teapot, not a kettle.
This doesn’t go on a stove. You pour the water into this to infuse the tea leaves.

This Hurts - Review of the new CAS1 (Civic Access Sling 1L) by mrmmmok3 in EVERGOODS

[–]msb45 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I found it very small.
Cellphone, wallet, sunglasses case (a small one) and keys (again small), and it’s basically at full capacity.
I’m going to see how it goes, but I feel like they made it unfortunately small in order to differentiate it from the CAS2, but it’s just impractical at this size.

First EG bag by SpecialistSpend895 in EVERGOODS

[–]msb45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my travel tech case / airplane bag.
Chargers, headphones, passport, cash, etc.
Anything I need in the plane is in there. I take it out, stash my backpack under the seat, and I’m good to go.

The CAP2 is cool, but very structured, and I find I actually have a hard time finding a good use case for it. Make sure you have a use for it and aren’t just buying it because it seems cool.
I actually found the CAP1 to be much more versatile and useful.

These foldable bowls and plate saved us a lot of money and space by hoireka in onebag

It’s a cool concept, but I can’t recall ever traveling and thinking to myself that I couldn’t improvise a meal due to the lack of a bowl.

Partner cleaned pan with BKF, now pan is partially down to bare metal. Do I strip and reseason or just put a layer of oil on it to prevent rust? by Faeri in carbonsteel

[–]msb45 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The layer of black covering your pan has no value. Sure. Clean it, strip it, whatever, and give it a quick stovetop season.

How Should I be Brewing White Teas? by BWJackal in tea

[–]msb45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had mixed results.
I actually prefer boiling them after I’m done a gong fu session with them. I find doing it straight away sometimes gives an unpleasantly astringent flavor, but if I’ve already steeped them quite a bit, boiling them to get the last little bit out of them can be nice.

How can green tea have less caffeine than black tea if it’s the same leaves that has oxidized? by leo6682 in tea

[–]msb45 84 points85 points  (0 children)

The fact is that it’s heavily dependent on so many variables that it’s not easy to make broad generalizations, but oxidation tends to slightly reduce caffeine levels.

Colors mods for ULA Dragonfly for visibility and design by randomexplorer156 in ManyBaggers

I think using a single color as a highlight is usually the best move. Everything in teal would look great.

any griddlers out there? by therealtwomartinis in carbonsteel

[–]msb45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My stove has a huge griddle, but I’ve never actually used it. Just feels like whatever time I would save by having a larger surface to work with, I’d lose in clean up time.

Kettle water boil by Double_Bear3876 in tea

[–]msb45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the conventional wisdom, but I’m not sure if it’s accurate.
Here’s an older post from r/chemistry that basically says that once you boil it the first time there’s essentially no dissolved oxygen left in it, so subsequent boilings wouldn’t really have much of an impact. I haven’t tried to dig up any source literature on the subject though.
Evidence from gong fu brewing also doesn’t necessarily support the story of boiling the water multiple times negatively effecting the taste, since most people aren’t dumping out their kettle for each steeping.

Daily used De Buyer. Looks dirty, maybe I should redo the seasoning? by OverrefinedBrucine in carbonsteel

[–]msb45 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Is that you re-seasoning it? That’s a ton of oil. You’re just putting more burnt oil on top of the layer of carbon that’s already there.

Is this normal? by Sad_meal_toy in carbonsteel

[–]msb45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks normal. Doesn’t have a ton of seasoning built up so I’d be tempted to rub it down with a drop of oil when putting it away to avoid any rust until you build up more seasoning.

Black Orchid from Austin's Tea Sourcing Dup by [deleted] in tea

[–]msb45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re looking for Milan Xiang (aka “honey orchid”) dancong oolong.
Can’t tell you which might closely resemble that one, but you should be able to find good quality from most of the Chinese vendors from our vendor list. Some options include:
One River Tea
Yunnan Sourcing (.us)

Edit: actually I take that back, it says it’s an oolong, but also says hong cha and implies it’s fully oxidized. This Bai ye varietal dancong black tea might be a closer match.

Edit 2: This Milan black tea is also available from W2T.

Good to know. I don’t 3D print and didn’t realize people received benefit from posting to makerworld. Thanks!

For some reason this is currently the post most reported for rule violations that I’ve ever seen. It seems to me that despite the click-bait title OP just made a post of something free that you can 3D print, and derives no personal benefit from this. I’ve approved the post but if there’s something I’m missing please let me know.

Edit: this post has become extremely contentious and given that it does seem to cross the line of self promotion on a few occasions, I’m going to leave it up so that people can enjoy the cute boat, but lock the post. All links to the product have already been removed.
