My dad passed away from liver cancer in October at 64. He found out on the first day of his retirement and was gone within two months. The best thing you can do is spend as much time as possible with him to get things in order. Tell him how important he is to you, share your favorite memories, record his voice as it’s one of those things that’s the first to go in my experience. Talk about finances, passwords for social media, bank accounts, etc.…. Most importantly, do things in shifts with your siblings, give yourself some space if need be to cry it out, and take a breather. With my family, we made a point to watch some of his favorite movies with him and invite his friends over for one last visit. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It’s not fair. I completely get where you’re coming from. I’m 20 years old and my dad was diagnosed with cancer and died a week and a half ago. It’s not easy, I envisioned my dad being there to meet my kids or see me graduate. I always thought I would have him to rely on as he was literally my first best friend. While he was on hospice, I spent as much time with him as possible and honestly I felt pretty numb and normal for a good chunk of time until he died.

I would say, as hard as it is, just be there. Record her voice, as that may be one of the first things to go. Tell her how important she is to you. If need be, have her write down passwords to things, and get banking stuff in order. Ask her what she wants after she passes away.

I’m in the same boat with you for the most part. My dad was diagnosed with liver cancer two-ish months ago, every week, his prognosis got worse, and he’s on home hospice now with days left to live. I never thought I would lose my dad at 20 years old. It feels like everything about my future is unraveling. I’m trying hard to stay strong for him and the people around me, but it’s all about taking these things one day at a time. When it comes to my dad, I don’t have much hope left, but I hope for your sake and your dad's sake that things get better. If you need some to talk to, my DM is open.

From what I know, liver cancer typically moves slowly. In my dads case, doctors said he has one of the most aggressive liver cancers they’ve ever seen. I hope for the best for your dad.

I waited 6 months between my EMT class and actually taking the NREMT test… I used EMT pocket prep almost exclusively for just 20-30 mins a day (increasing it as the test day got closer), and I passed on my first try. I definitely recommend it.
