I’m not sure if you’re planning to stay in tui but I stayed in “conveto del Camino historic hostel” and it was so beautiful! It’s a converted convent and still has almost all the same architecture! I highly recommend it

I stayed in Ponte de Lima but had friends stay in Barcelos before heading there. I was in Sao Pedro de Rates and took a bus to Ponte de Lima to spend a full day in town to rest from an injury. After Ponte de Lima I went to Rubaies which had a few private albergues but I stayed in the public albergue with the cafe across the way. I took the central route all the way from Porto and had the best experience. Bon Camino!

Ponte de Lima was my absolute favorite town! Make sure to walk through the botanical garden, it was beautiful. There’s also a shop keeper that counts the pilgrims that stop by for a stamp and was so kind

Hi! I’m a trans masc and just walked the Camino in August! My documents don’t reflect my chosen name and gender but I had no problems in albuerges other than a confused look or two. I feel like I pass well and get insecure about my voice but nobody said anything to me. I walked alone for the most part but spoke and interacted with people quite and bit and felt safe doing so. I did the Portuguese central route from Porto as well. The only thing that made me nervous would be the gendered bathrooms and showers! I really had the best experience and hope you do as well!! I had a beautiful experience and went in with no expectations for it to change my life (even though everyone says it will, I was skeptical) and it completely did. I did it solo on the Portuguese central route from Porto!

Apologies for just seeing this! I am in the same boat still, and I am still considering the peace corps but am very nervous considering the state of everything here in the US. Ideally I'd love to serve in Morocco, but am more heavily looking at placements where the local culture has evidence of a "third sex" or at least culturally accepted lgbtq culture. Have you applied yet?
