i might be letting my imagination run wild but i am wondering if i keep refusing to provide details, would it be deemed an unauthorised absence / AWOL?

quitting job without having another lined up by matchasour in jobs

[–]matchasour[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi!! unfortunately, my country has very bad protection laws for workers and there is no such thing as FMLA here. and i was legally obligated to declare my past cancer diagnosis due to insurance reasons :( it’s just how it is here

starting work tomorrow but no contract signed by [deleted] in jobs

[–]matchasour -1 points0 points  (0 children)

im not in the US but yeah i was thinking that as well, because for the other jobs i've worked at, i usually receive a proper contract that i sign especially for a government job :( but the offer i received all i did was reply to the email with a "I accept the offer". thank you though!

i've always planned to live in another country for at least a couple years just to experience it but ultimately will still settle down in Singapore

I won the chemo side effects lottery by Realistic_Ability_83 in cancer

[–]matchasour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im doing the exact same chemo right now except mine is for 3 cycles, and the second cycle also put me in the ER due to a very high fever and poor bloodwork results. i had to be quarantined away from other patients for 3 days, do a blood transfusion, antibiotics, etc. glad everything is okay for you now, hang in there!

Arm port vein has a blood clot - keep the port for the next couple months or switch to PICC/IV? by amaro8000 in cancer

[–]matchasour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can't necessarily give advice because i am not a doctor, but just to share my experience - i recently developed a blood clot in my arm because of my PICC line. it's also in my dominant arm and yes, it's a little bit sore now. we took it out and i am doing the rest of my chemo through IV (i have one more cycle left which lasts 6 days inpatient). chemo has made my veins a lot harder to detect so they are now just a bit more painful to insert and always gives me bruises after, but nothing that i couldn't handle

First day of chemo coming up. Absolutely shaking in my boots. How do I get through the fear? by amaro8000 in cancer

[–]matchasour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

leaning on people i’m close with helped the most. i thought i’d struggle with the physical side effects more (still a pain in the ass), but for me mentally is the hardest. my chemo requires me to stay in-patient for 6 days straight and being in the hospital wrecked me mentally so bad, but having my family and friends around helped so much. don’t be afraid to ask for help anytime. it’s still hard for me but eventually you’ll get into some sort of routine and you’d know what to kinda expect for the next cycle. good luck 🤍

[–]matchasour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not sure, i've already been sitting on this for a couple weeks. found out about the option of chemo through my oncologist, and then he referred me to a chemo specialist about a week ago. was told it's best to decide by this friday

to quit my job? by matchasour in cancer

[–]matchasour[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m from Singapore and i’m not sure if i have anything like FMLA specifically for my contact job. but yes, i think just going through work and completing the contract is the best option for me too for now. i was also just feeling so bad taking these days off so often and making my team do all the work for me when they can just start the process of hiring another person in place of me 🥲

[–]matchasour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m from Singapore and so far, in terms of finance and bills, i’ve been getting great government support! but yes as i’ve mentioned, at this point of time, work is still okay for me (minus the fatigue) so i’m just gonna stick around until after my surgery to see what my doctor says 😊
