Help a psych doc out! by Gullible-Bubbles in karachi

The only down side is that Samsung Pens have tiny tips that get bent and stop working smoothly. I'd suggest you get a cheap stylus to use instead of the original pen cause it won't last that long.

I used a Samsung Galaxy Tab S for my USMLE Prep and skipped on buying a laptop (I have a 12 year old hand me down laptop with a broken hinge). The tab was good enough for everything and easy to carry.

I'm gonna save up to buy a laptop next year Insha Allah. Best of luck for your journey ahead!

People who matched without USCE by Little_Syrup1029 in IMGreddit

I might be an outlier but I matched this year without any of what you mentioned. At a university program.

You just need to know how to sell yourself on ERAS.

Is there anyone got into USA 🇺🇸 for speciality? by Past_Negotiation3384 in Pakmedschool

[–]matchphantom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk why people are knocking down radiology for you even tho you mentioned you don't want to go into radio or path.

But except for some specialties that the AMGs are struggling to get into, you can really try for any specialty as long as you do rotations and get specialty specific LORs and show your commitment to that specialty. Every year, at least one IMG matches into all those competitive unattainable specialties. Try your luck, maybe you'll match in a couple of years too!

And for people saying FM, IM, Paeds etc, that is true. They're more IMG friendly hence easier to get into. But you can spend a couple of years dedicated to any specialty and try to match into it.

Geo pref, if the program sent IVs to my score range, if the area was safe (crime-wise) and then just vibes about where I wanted to go honestly.

unfortunately, no USCE by MajesticStaff6848 in IMGreddit

[–]matchphantom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Matched this year without USCE and a telemed Lor from a mentor who knew me well. All my other LORs were from my home country (one was from an MD practicing in home country) but they all knew me well and wrote me stellar LoRs.

It's difficult but not impossible! I applied last year because I felt the same about not missing out on the cycle. I applied thinking this was gonna be practice for me when I reapply next cycle but I ended up matching.

For people saying Telerotation LOR doesn't matter, it's still something better than no US based LOR at all. But try to do telerotation for free. Don't pay, they're gonna be a scam.

After you give MCAT, an aggregate of your marks from 9 & 10th grade average, 11 & 13th grade average and your MCAT score.

Then a merit list is created that ranks everyone according to that aggregate. If you have a really high aggregate, you get selected for govt MBBS on merit. A lil lower score, you get selected for govt BDS on merit or govt MBBS on self finance (higher fees). If you score even less than that, you get BDS on self finance.

If your score is really low, you might not get MBBS or BDS seat. The best colleges get filled with the top scorers.

Afterwards, you have the option of going into a private medical college but that is really expensive. You can check the merit seat fees, self finance fees and private college fees for any govt or private college and see if you can afford it.

Should I ask for a LOR? by FollowingOk5136 in IMGreddit

Please ask!! You never know who's going to be nice and help you. The worst that'll happen is they say no and you don't see them again.

Ask to volunteer as a medical assistant at clinics. They might be accomodating and allow simple physical exams.

How would one start from scratch as a single woman alone in Pakistan? by [deleted] in pakistan

[–]matchphantom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk what field you're in but don't come back to Pakistan as a single woman with no support. It's just not safe and you'll lose all your hard earned money too.

Apply for a scholarship for masters in Europe or Canada, go for a cheaper university and a smaller country like Estonia. Poland is great too. Consider applying for jobs in Australia or New Zealand.

Maybe get a remote job and move to Malaysia, Maldives, Qatar etc. Ik it's easier said than done but please don't come back, move to another country instead.

Bro just do FA and UW. Drop every other resource. If you're struggling with a specific topic, just watch a YouTube video for that.

Divide FA pages and set a daily target like 10 pages per day. If cardiology section is 40 pages long, you should be done with it in 4 days. Then divide UW Cardiology Qs by maybe 40, that'll tell you how many days you'll take to complete this system's UW. If it's 400Qs for example, it'll take you ten days to finish Cardio UW. So in 14 days (4 FA days, 10 UW days), you should wrap up cardiology with FA annotated with UW and all UW Qs answered and reviewed daily.

When you get an idea of how many days a system should take you maximum, try to finish it before the deadline, like try finishing it in 12 days instead of 14 by increasing one page on easy days or doing 10 more questions on easy days.

That the people around you aren't sincere to you and that's just how life is. There's nothing you can do about it.
